Lappin Outlines
Arbitration Court
Idea in Radio Talk

In a radio address on Feb. 6
over Station WMBC, A. C. Lappin,
recognized authority on arbitra-
tion problems, outlined the objects
of the arbitration court of the Jew-
ish Community Council, In the
course
of his remarks he said:
41
"The plan which is about to be
offered to the public by the Coun-
cil can be stated in a very few
sentences; the procedure in sim-
plicity itself; the dispute must be
one that can be legally submitted
for arbitration or conciliation; all
ties parties must agree to the sub-
mission; at least one of the par-
ties must be of the Jewish faith;
the parties decide upon the num-
ber of arbitrators and have an
equal voice in their selection; the
subject matter must be acceptable
to the Arbitration Committee of
the Council. That, in a nut-shell, is
the whole plan; when understood ,
it is as simple as the A.B.C., and
1 Zeroes whenever an open-minded judge ,
lawyer or layman has given the
subject any study he has almost
invariably concluded that the ar-
bitration method of settling dis -
putes is by far the best that has
been devised.
"Applicable to nearly all types
of cases, we count among the
numerous advantages of arbitra-
tion, these-

gogue; Uda Ginsberg, vice-presi-
dent of the congregation, and M.

berg, Pomerantz, Fruman and

well as guest rabbis, the Cantors
Association of Detroit and mem-

invited. There will be speakers, mu-
sic and entertainers. Grand Rabbi
J, Rabinowitz is the spiritual lead-
er. For reservations call Madison
7938 or any members of the com-
mittee.

"I want to make clear that ar-
bitration is , not • panacea for all
the evils of litigation but it does
administer justice while the courts
administer law. It is the modern
system—keeping pace with all
progress. It is not a substitute for
but a supplement to the court sys-
tem. Anatole France wrote that
'there is no peace save in justice.'
Arbitration and Conciliation spell
peace—peace between men, between
nations."
