If you are a home owner you
probably have to deal with a mart-
gage. Payments are fairly easy
to make now, but if you should
die before the mortgage is paid off, your dependents might
have a struggle to make the payments. For what is, in effect,
merely a slight increase in the interest rate you pay, you can
obtain a Great-West policy which will clear off the mortgage
for your family if the emergency should ever arise.

Trees Planted In Pales-
tine Honor Memory
of Droock

In memory of the late Bar-
ney Droock, who was a devoted
horticulturist and who took
great pride in the beautiful
garden he planted himself at his
home, 2481 Edison Ave., a num-
ber of trees were planted in
Palestine.
The Jewish National Fund
Council of Detroit announces
that five trees were planted in
his memory by the Michigan
Bnai Brith Council; an addi-
tional five trees by Pisgah
Lodge of Bnai Brith of which
his sons, Aaron and Dr. Victor
Droock, are outstanding lead-
ers; and another six trees were
planted by the following: Julius
Deutelbaum, Morris Shatzen,
Henry Abramovitz, Ben F.
Goldman, Harry Yudkoff and
Philip Slomovitz,

Let me give you full particulars of this attractive plan.

ber of the Rice Lake Masonic
Lodge; member of the Rebecca
Lodge Auxiliary to the Oddfel-
lows; member of the Eastern
Star Auxiliary to the Masonic
Lodge and a member of the Rice
Lake Bnai Brith Lodge.
An intimate and personal
friend of the late Senator Robert
LaFollette, Sr., Mr. Droock
was closely associated with the
entire LaFollette Family. The
present Senator Robert M. La-
Jr.,
r. and Governor
Philip LaFollette of Wisconsin
have always maintained a close
and intimate relationship with
him. He was a close personal
friend of Solomon Levitan, state
treasurer of Wisconsin and an in-
timate friend of the late Senator
John Maine of Wisconsin. To the
day of his death he maintained a
close and intimate relationship
with all of the Progressive lead-
ers and officials of the State of
Wisconsin.
By choice of the leaders of the
various Jewish communities in
Northern Wisconsin, Mr. Droock
was made chairman of a perma-
nent committee for the raising
and collection of funds for all
worthy Jewish activities; and
similarly he was the chairman for
the local non-Jewish communities
in connection with all of their
charitable fund raising activities.
He was a well-read, well-informed
man and led an active mental and
physical life. Every worthy cause
attracted his active support. He
was a great lover of nature and
got his greatest pleasure out of
his flower garden.
Besides his sons, Aaron and
Dr. Victor, Barney Droock is sur-
vived by a daughter, Sarah, and
his wife, Mary.

In his description of the Poles
and the Hungarians, Mr. Gunther
states: "In the chauvinism sweep-
stakes the Hungarians beat even
the Poles. A little story is relevant.
The proud father of an eight-year-
old schoolgirl entering a geogra-
phy class bought her a globe. She
surveyed It and broke into tears.
'Papa', she wailed, 'I want a globe
with only Hungary on it.'"
"Masaryk—what grandeur the
name connotes!" is the manner in
which the author commences his
tribute to the great founder of the
Czechoslovakian R e p u b l i c. He
states that "the whole of his career
was moral-intellectual. He was one
of the most formidably learned
men of his time, a philosopher and
prophet of almost Judaic stature."
Magda Lupescu of course comes
in for description for her part in
the life of King Carol and Ruma-
nian affairs of state. Gunther
states that hi a g d a 'persuades
Carol to save his money. She is,
according to all gossip, faithful to
him, and this in a country mon-
strously licentious."
Speaking of Kemal Ataturk, the
dictator of Turkey, the author
states that "as great an authority
as Toynbee suggests that Jewish
blood 'may have been in the family.
Salonika has, of course, been a
citadel of Jews since the Diaspora;
many, called 'Onetime,' were con-
verts; to Islam. But Kamal's irre-
frag-able blondness and his cold
blue eyes would seem to preclude
more than a hint of Jewish—or for
that matter Turkish—ancestry."
Much is said about Pilsudski, but
there is little reference to the Jew-
ish situation in Poland in Mr. Gun-
ther's book. It Is interesting to
note that the famous elephant sto-
ry ("The Elephant and the Jewish
Problem") is here ascribed to the
Poles who think only in terms of
the Polish problem. Which goes to
prove the possibility of variations
in describing traits of different
peoples. The same Is true with re-
gard to the story ascribed to a
Russian who wanted to utter a
one-word-speech over the radio in
the presence of Stalin, and his
once was the word "Help!" We
had been in the habit of using this
story when speaking of Germany
and Hitler.
Gunther ridicules the idea that
Jews dominate Russia and de-
clares: "Nothing could be farther
from the truth." He writes interst-
