Due to the fact that New Year's Eve happens to fall this year
on Sabbath Eve, we request most urgently and with all emphasis
that the Jews of Detroit, especially Jewish organizations, should
not celebrate the New Year in the customary manner and revelry
on the Sabbath Eye. The riotous c elebration of the eye would bring
about directly the public desecration of the Sabbath and indirectly
would cause • "Chilul Hashe," "the profanation of the great Name."
We are sure that such an attitude on the part of the Jewish
public would, if anything, increase our prayerful wishes and our
earnest efforts for the prosperity, welfare and peace of this great
country in the coming year.
