And a Shul needs a rabbi. Rabbi
Seixas can't go back to New York,
not so long as the Britishers hold
the city, There is nothing to hold
him there in the Yankee village."
Ile turned about to face a young
guest, dressed in a whig uniform.
"Lieutenant Franks, you're go-

row, aren't you?"
"Yes, Mr. Josephson," Lieut.
Isaac Franks, aide de camp to
General Washington answered.
"If I can be of any service!"
"Then it is all settled," Joseph-
son announced with an air of
finality. "You, lieutenant, can ob-

proceed to Stratford in Connecti-
cut, fetch Rabbi Seixas over here
to us — with his Menorah and
everything — and next Thursday
night we shall celebrate Chanukah
and at the same time dedicate the
site of our synagogue,

it marked the dedication of Phila-

Berent Elected Captain of
Varsity Basketball Team i

Election of "Cy" Berent to cap-
taincy of the Varsity basketball
team of the Jewish Community
Center was announced this week.
Berent plays forward position.
Election of a permanent captain
is an innovation with the team
this year, the practice last year
having been to select a captain
for each game.
Commenting on the new plan, I
Coach Babcock stated that he
believed the new plan would lead
to better teamwork and co-oper-
ation (or the good of the squad.
The Varsity squad will play
Toledo, Akron and Cleveland dur-
ing th^ present season, the latter
being • new opponent. The team
will travel to Cleveland on Sat-
urday. Jan. 15; to Akron on Sun-
day, Jan. 16; and will play Akron
hire on Feb. 5. Last season To-
. Ledo and Akron both won in hard-
fought games by one point mar-
gins.
