Preparations to receive the inter-
national president of the order,
the Hon. Alfred M. Cohen of Cin-
cinnati, who will adress the mem-
bers, including a large class of
newcomers into the order, on the
occasion of the 80th anniversary
of the local lodge. The event is
scheduled for Sunday, Nov. 21,
to be held in the grand ballroom
of the Statler Hotel.
At 1 o'clock on that day, the
Michigan ,Council of Bnai Brith
Lodges, consisting of delegates of
12 lodges in the state, will hold
its annual meeting, a feature of
which will be election of officers
for the year 1938. Rabbi Jerome
D. Folkman of Grand Rapids, who
will also be the speaker at the
banquet, is president of the Coun-
cil and his activities covering the
year 1937 will be included in his
annual message.
The legislative committee of
the Council has watched legisla-
tion proposed in the chambers at
Lansing, keeping in mind at all
times the interests not only of the
Jews but other minority groups.
This committee will give its re-
port. Another contemplated fea-
ture of the Council is a program
to educate the Jews of the State
with reference to the achieve-
ments of Bnai Brith.
At 2:30 p. m, the exemplifica-
tion of the ritual of the order
will take place before a class
which present indication show
will number several hundred. The
degree team of Pisgah Lodge un-
der the leadership of Past Presi-
dent Elias Goldberg has for years
had the reputation of being one
of the finest in the country and
has received numerous calls from
other lodges for its services. The
candidates will be addressed by
Dr. A. Greenberg of Omaha, Neb.,
president of District Grand Lodge
No. 6. A response in behalf of the
class will conclude the program
in the course of which Rev. Jacob
H. Sonenklar, cantor of Shaarey
Zedek with a quartet will chant
the melodic portions of the ritual.
The class drive is in charge of
Dr. Victor Droock, a past presi-
dent of the lodge, and a number
of teams headed by several cap-
tains.
The banquet is scheduled for
6:30 o'clock. Rabbi Leon Fram
of Temple Beth El will deliver the
invocation. In addition to Presi-
dent Cohen and Rabbi Folkman,
Governor Frank Murphy will ap-
pear on the program which will
be in charge of Toastmaster
Aaron Droock, past president of
the lodge and now second vice-
president of the District Grand
Lodge. The speakers' program
will be interspersed with solos by
Cantor Sonenklar and violin solo
by David Diamond; the latter will
also personally conduct the or-
chestra for the dance at the con-
cluuion of the dinner.
As on past occasions of similar
character, the events will draw
large attendances and reserva-
tions for the dinner dance will
be taken by Harry Yudkoff, past
president. at Randolph 8009. a
