Council to Clear
Community Dates

Calendar to Be Kept as Service

to Organizations

Establishment of a community
calendar for the clearing of meet-
ing dates of Jewish organizations
was approved at the meeting of
the executive committee of the
Jewish Commpnity Council.
Any organitation wishing to set
a lecture date, open meeting or
special event or any sort—includ-
ing social activities—is invited to
phone the office of the Jewish
Community Ccuncil at Columbia
1600, extension 164, or by writ-
ing the Council at 51 West War-
ren. There the secretary of ar-
rangements committee will be
able to find out whether any other
organization has an important
event listed for the date selected,
or what might be the next date
open on which such an event may
be slated.
There is no compulsion about
the scheduling of events. The
community calendar is designed
• merely as a service. The dates
scheduled will not be published
in any form at present, but the
list of meetings will be available
to all who ask for the informa-
tion. The calendar is open to all
Jewish organizations in the city
without regard to membership of
such organizations in the Jewish
Community Council.

YIDDISH LIBRARY
FORMED AT CENTER

More than 300 volumes have
been added to the library at the
Jewish Community Center to con-
stitute the Yiddish section of the
library. This section has been or-
ganized by the committee for a
Jewish library in Detroit. A spe-
cial fund of a $1,000 was raised
for the purpose by the committee,
which is representative of a half-
dozen different groups, for the
purpose of establishing the Yid-
dish section.
A Yiddish book exchange was
maintained at the Center last
year, and this has been expanded
this season into a permanent con-
signment of books. The purpose,
it was explained, is to make avail-
able to pupils of the Yiddish
schools, the best in literary works
of that language.
Max Holtzman is president of
the committee, Dr. S. Kleiman is
treasurer and Mrs. Adel Mondry
is secretary. Groups represented
by the committee include the Ar-
beiter Alliance, the Sholem Alel-
chem Folk Institute, Yiddish Kul-
tur Geselschaft, Arbeiter Ring
and several women's reading
Circles. Assisting the committee in
the selection of representative
works is the Yiddish Book Gesel-
schaft of New York.

SECOND REHEARSAL OF
SYMPHONY AT SHAAREY
Z E D E K ENTHUSIASTIC

Junior Council
to Meet Sunday

The second rehearsal of the
Shaarey Zedek Symphony Or-
chestra was marked by an in-
crease in the number of players
and in the further progress of
high enthusiasm the orchestral
project has aroused. The spirit
of the group, the musical pedi-
gree of many of the members
and the gifted directorship of
Michael Bistritzky is arousing
confidence in the future develop-
ment of the orchestra.
Since it was organized the com-
mittee has met numerous times
and devised plans for the foun-
dation of the orchestra.
Another plea for players of
various instruments is made by
the committee. These players
are asked to attend the regular
Thursday evening rehearsals in
the social hall of the Shaarey
Zedek, beginning at 8:15 p .m.,
or phone Morris Shatzen at Ran-
dolph 4585 or Dr. Joseph Gruber
at Cherry 8877.

A tea and open meeting of the
Junior Council will be held at the
home of Mildred Vass of 270 E.
Kirby Ave., on Sunday, Oct. 17,
at 3 o'clock.
Rachel Berman, president, and
