National Anti-N•si Week
NEW YORK. — At a confer-

the Joint Boycott Council of the
American Jewish Congress and
the Jewish Labor Committee, it
was decided to hold an anti-Nazi
week which will be a reply to
the celebrations and propagan-

this country.
According to a statement issued
to the press by Dr. Joseph Ten-
enbaum and B. C. Vladeck, co-
chairmen of the Joint Boycott
Council, plans have already been
laid for a display of unity among
all the anti-Nazi elements in this
country. During the anti-Nazi
week it is planned to hold mass
meetings in all the larger cities
of the country, culminating with
a large demonstration in New
York.
The Joint Boycott Council, ae-
cording to the statement, is or-
ranging to have thousands of He-
brew school children distribute
buttons bearing the legend "I
Boycott Nazi Germany." Several
student organizations and teach-
ers' unions have already signaled
their willingness to co-operate.

MEET THE NEW LORD ROTHSCHILD

(CONCLUDED FROM PAOB ONE)

with banking. And unlike the
second Lord, the present title-
holder is a stranger to the Jew.
Ish scene.
Born on Oct. 31, 1910, a few
months after the death of his
grandfather's intimate friend,
King Edward VII, Victor Roth-
schild was destined to succeed to
his grandfather's title from the
day of his father's death in 1923,
when the future lord was just
observing his Bar Mitzvah. Vic•
for was in his first year at liar•
row, one of England's most fa-
mous preparatory schools. when
his father, Nathaniel Charles,
youngest son of the first Lord
Rothschild, committed suicide out
of fear of approaching insanity.
Whether it was his father's tragic
death or the influence of his
uncle, the second Lord Rothschild,
Victor, never evinced any liking
for finance. As the sole heir of
his father's brother, the late Lord
Walter Lionel, Victor found him•
self attracted to science, in which
his uncle had already distin-
guished himself, rather than to
banking, for which the second
Lord had evinced a marked dis-
taste.
At Harrow, Victor made quite
a reputation as a cricket player,
starring In the Eton-liarrow
match, one of the most sacred
fixtures of London's annual so•
dal season. At Cambridge he
distinguished himself as a schol-
ar, specializing in biology, After
his graduation he served notice
on the family that he was deter-
mined to follow in his uncle'%
footsteps and make science his
career. But after much pleading
by his mother, Victor agreed to
give banking a try. And in 1932,
he came to the United States for
several months as a clerk in the
office of J. P. Morgan & Com•
pany. This brief excursion into
a realm that had made the name
of Rothschild synonymous with
wealth definitely decided Victor
to stick to his original determina-
tion to become a biologist. Upon
his return to England ho became
research fellow in biophysics at
Trinity College, Cambridge, a post
he still holds.

Victim of Anti-Semitism

sires until the death of his uncle
made him Lord Rothschild and
saddled him with all the burdens
that title carries with it. Al-
though the holder of the Rothschild
title has usually been the ac-
cepted lay leader of British Jewry,
it Is improbable that Victor will
either want or get this responsi-
bility. The toga of Jewish lead-
ership will probably go to his
cousins, Lionel and Anthony, who
manage the Rothschild bank.
There Is also some doubt as to
whether he will relish the respon-
sibility of filling a seat in the
stodgy House of Lords. Victor
is the sort of person who would
be happier as plain Mr. Rothschild.
A tall, shy, and Blighty Byronic
figure. Victor is more at home
in his laboratory or in the zoo-
logical museum of his uncle at
Tring Park, where he spent so
many happy days in his child•
hood.

Those who know the young
Lord Rothschild will—and their
number is few—predict that the
title will make no change in the
habits or mode of living of the
curly-haired, rather good looking
felow, whose prominent nose ,
low-hanging jaw, bushy brows ,
deep-set eyes and heavy shock o f
hair cause all who meet him to
doubt that he is really a Roth-
schild. Nothing about him be -
speaks of great wealth. He i s
plain, simple and without airs.
Like allmen of science he de-
tests the limelight. . That the
Rothschild family is not happy
with the man who wears the title
goes without saying. But remem -
bering that his uncle, the second
lord, was a man of similar ideas
and habits, they are probably re-
conciled to the idea of the new
breed of Lord Rothschild.

the Ex . Servicemen's National
Movement, founded early in 1936
to mobilize war veterans against
fascism, has disbanded in order
to eliminate friction with the
British Legion and other older
veterans' organizations. The move-
ment had a membership of over
5.000. In announcing the dis-
solution, M. Harris, president.
said that the :movement had at-

understood that most members of
