In discussing the frontiers of the proposed Jewish State, the British Royal Commission observed: "The natural principl e for the partitio n of Palestine is to separate the areas in which the Jews have acquired land and settled from those which are wholly or mainly occupied by Arabs." Whatever the outcome of that proposal, this much 6 certain, that whatever land is in national Jewish posses- sion constitutes the unshakable found•tion of Eretx Israel's Jewish future. Galile e , including the Rule). Zone, has been included in the area where Jewish rights are not challengeable. To expedite the transfer of • 100,000 dunam land tract adjacent to the Huleh Concession area and as • particularly appropriat e method for observing the current 35th anni y year of Geulath Ha'aretx work, the Jewish National Fund has 'flo a ted" • Huleh Gift Bond Issue (reproduced above) for the raising o f America's share towards this urgent purpose. Dr. Mark Gunxburg Heads Staff of Noted Teachers A new school of music, localed at 477 W. Kirby, one block west of the main library, between Cass and Second, has been formed under the name of Detroit Musical College, which is at the same time the loadt school center of the celebrated Trinity College of Music in London. The study plan and syllabus cor- responds to the plans of the Trini- ty College, which will send year- ly a prominent musician to hold examinations, leading to inter- nationally recognized certificates and diplomas. The school will have well-organized classes for solfeggio, theory, ear training and ensemble, and the stu- dents will have the opportunity to appear in public recitals. There will also be monthly fa- culty musicales with interesting programs for the purpose of broad- ening the knowledge of music lit- erature and to deepen the students' interest in musical art. The vocal department is in charge of Mme. Katia Kourtewa llowdren, mezzo soprano, a former prima donna of the State Opera in Sofia and in Marseilles. Arthur Maebe, a prominent mem- ber of the Detroit Symphony Or- chestra, has charge of the violin classes and solfeggio. Mr. Maebe Is a graduate of the Brusselas Con- servatorium where he studied under Caesar Thompson. Constantin Komarowaky, noted violoncelle virtuoso, is another out- standing member of the faculty. The piano and theory classes are in charge of Dr. Mark Gunz- burg and the preparatory classes are confined to several assistant teachers. The students are always under supervision of the heads of the faculty. For information and appointmezta call Columbia 4474. Mr. and Mrs. Max Zeintz and Family 3745 Elmhurst Ave. There is a good deal of de- bate at the present time about what are called absolute and relative values. The absolute values are those that have some- thing of an eternal quality—of worth always and everywhere. The relative values are more particular and concrete, having to do with specific times and places. There is some differ- •ence among various types of philosophic thinkers as to wheth- er the absolute or the relative values are the more important. Leaving the philosophers to debate this question we have to recognize that today the Jews are setting on high, with mar- velous clearness and force, both forms of values. The relative, particular qualities which make the Jews what they are, have never been more manifest than what they are today. The Jews are of Nalue to the world's civilization because they are Jews. They adapt them- selvel to differing historical cir- cumstances indeed, but they do not yield to the most fervent social heat' in any social melt- ing pot. There is no more out- standing phenomenon in the world's history than this refusal of the Jews to be other than Jews. By being Jews the Jews have kept certain essential moral values as to the worth of per- sonal and family and group life before the' consciousness and conscience of the race: On the side of absolute values —the worth of human beings as human beings, always and every- where—the Jews are ever in the r midst of outrage, as, by the Hitlerites whose philosophy and practice deny the rights of hu- man beings ' as such, defending human rights against the so- called Nordics of today as did the Jewish prophets against the inhuman paganisms of the olden times.
