to the reputation he has estab-
lished. These poems, as he writes
at the opening of the book, are:
Tongue of trees, and eyes of lovers,
CRUKIlt slid
Jailed between two covers.
The title of the book Is derived
from the initial poem, in which he
sings:
To olntry tom, belong
Fright with darkness
taloned;
My ;tong, my radiant song,
I. my lantern In the wind.
The old flame that has 'wide Mr.
Raskin's poems the inspiration of
his readers sparkles throughout
this volume. There is reality as
well as imaginary thought in these
poems. In "Union" the poet cries
forth:
A single crystal drop of water,
Then another, Boning free;
The limpid mother kilns her daughter—
And we hate sea.
A orals of sand, golden - yellow,
'then another grabs of sand;
The golden grain meets Ills fellow—
And us hate land.
A human being; then another;
Then more, and still more;
And brother reeognIree brother—
And we hit. marl
is the dreamer who has dis-
tinguished himself again and again
who emerges from this book,
"Lanterns in the Wind" is a
splendid book and it deserves the
same reception that was previously
accorded Mr. Raskin whenever he
announced the appearance of a
new volume.

Religious Re.vival
Reported In Soviet
MOSCOW (WNS)—A religious
revival among the Jews of Soviet
Russia has reached such propor-
tions, especially among children,
that the Emes, Yiddish Communist
daily, is calling for a renewed anti-
religion campaign in the schools.
Complaining that the efforts of
rabbis have succeeded in prevailing
upon many childred to absent
themselves from classes during
Passover and to participate in the
Passover ceremonial, the Emes
urges school teachers to counter-
act the religious learning obtained
by Jewish youngsters from Jewish
religious instructors.

"Children of the Emek by Lib-
bie L. Braverman will be pub-
lished on Sept. 30 by the Farrow
Press, 115 Eastern Parkway,
Brooklyn, N. Y.
The book derives its title from
Emek Jezreel in Palestine where
a pair of twins, David and Tamar
Ben Ami, aged nine, live. Their
home is in Nahalal, a workers' co-
operative. Their exploits, adven-
tures, and trips are related in the
story. An important character in
the book is Elsa, a child refugee
from Germany who comes to live
in Nahalal and becomes the twin's
friend.
The author, Sirs. Braverman, is
director of extension activities at
the Euclid Avenue Temple in
Cleveland, Ohio. Many of the
stories in this book were origi-
nally told to the children in the
Temple classes after Mrs. Braver-
man's first Palestine trip. These
proved so popular that they were
written and printed in a mimeo-
graphed edition. In 1936, bin.
Braverman made a second trip to
Palestine. Much new material was
added to the manuscript as a re-
sult.
The illustrations for the book
are by Temima Nimtzowitz. Miss
Nimtzowitz, too, has been to Pal-
estine twice. For eight months in
1936, she lived and worked as a
colonist at Mishmar ha-Emek, a
cooperative quite close to Nahalal.
Miss Nimtzowitz has also painted
several murals of note, particu-
larly the synagogue mural in the
Society for the Advancement of
Judaism in eNw York City. This
depicts the old and the new Pal-
estine.
