TEMPLE RELIGIOUS
SCHOOL RE-OPENS
Thousand Children Return
to Classes; Adult School
to Open in October
The educational system of
Temple Beth El will resume its
work next Saturday and Sunday,
Sept. 11 and 12. Children of all
ages from nursery school age to
high school and college age will
return to their classes.
Most of the classes are held
on Sunday morning. The confir-
mation department, however,
which consists of pupils of the
7th, Bth and 9th grades, meets on
Saturday morning. The adult
school, which is known as Beth
El College of Jewish Studies,
meets on Monday nights and will
reopen on Monday night, Oct. 11.
New students are now being reg-
istered. The office at the Temple
is open every day from 9 a. m.
to 6 p. m. No new students are
registered on Saturday or Sun-
day
The completeness of Temple
Beth El's educational system has
become famous throughout the
country. In no other school do
the children begin attending at
pre.kindergarten age. In no other
school do so many young people
keep attending through the high
school age. No other Temple
has such a well organized school
of adult education as Beth El
College of Jewish Studies.

prehensive as design for Jewish
education. Rabbi Leon Fram
stated, "I always reply that this
elaborate effort is possible in any
Congregation whose leaders take
Jewish cducation seriously.
"When you consider that Jew-
ish congregations and communi-
ties can survive only through
raising a new generation of young
people devoted to their people and
their faith, then. it follows that
no amount of sacrifice is too great
to support the school system
which will produce this result.
"Only by beginning a child's
Jewish education as early as the
age of four, can we hope to im-
plant in him an affection for the
Jewish Religion and the Jewish
people. Only by continuing Jew-
ish education through adolescence
and adulthood can we make it
count in strengthening Jewish
morals, in developing Jewish'
leadership. and in cultivating the
beauties of Jewish life."

House of Shelter Provides
Prayer Books and Yar-
melkes for Prisoners
Nearly two dozen prayer books
for the High Holy Days and
Yarmelkes have been provided by
the Jewish House of Shelter, on
Taylor near Woodrow Wilson, for
use of Jewish prisoners in the
Detroit House of Correction and
in the Wayne County jail.
The furnishing of these accom-
modations for the holiday services
is a continuation of an experiment
begun several years ago but
which met with so much enthusi-
astic support that it has been con-1
tinued as a regular part of the
work of the House of Shelter.
The first consignment sent out
consists of books for the Rosh
Hashonah services. Next week
books will be sent out for the
Yom Kippur services. Officials at
both institutions are expected to
provide a place where the Jewish
prisoners may assemble to wor-
ship on the appropriate days.
