the High Holy Days.
Cantor Korsman has a national
reputation and has performed serv-
ices in many large cities in Amer-
ica.
Cantor Korsman with his choir
will officiate at the Slichoth serv-
ices Saturday, Aug. 28, at mid-
night. These services are open to
the public.
A special arrangements commit-
tee appointed and headed by the
president of the Tuxedo-Holmur
Synagogue will be in charge of the
arrangements for the High Holi-
days. The committee consists of
Nathan Yaffe, president; Isaac
August, Louis Dann and B. Ka-
minsky. Mr. Yaffe is active not
only in connection with the syna-
gogue, but identifies himself with
all worthwhile Jewish institutions.
He and his friend, henry Lapides,
have rendered invaluable service in
connection with the Allied Jewish
Campaign.
At the Philadelphia-Byron Syna-
gogue, Rabbi David Ryan will of-
ficiate. For the Shachrith services.
Jacob Kaplan has been engaged

NATHANIEL RUBIN
CHECKER CHAMPION

Nathaniel Rubin of 1963 W.
Euclid Ave., has returned to De-
troit after winning the National
Checker Association championship
in the tournament held in Provi-
dence, R. 1., from Aug. 2 to Aug.
10. Rubin defeated William Ryan,
of New York City, winning two
out of six games played. Four
games were draws. Rubin, who is
25 years old, has been playing
checkers in tournaments for about
eight years. lie was graduated
from the Detroit College of Law
in June. The championship netted
him approximately $260 in prize
money.

in marriage, on Sunday Aug. 15,

The bride wore a lovely white
satin gown cut on simple lines
with a tulle veil net on a tiara.
She carried a family Bible
adorned with lillies of the valley
and white satin streamers. She
was attended by her sister. Mrs.
Edith Levin, who wore blue satin
and carried talisman roses, and
her sister-in.law, Mrs. Ruth
Lewis, who was gowned in char-
treuse and carried a bouquet of
light roses.
The groom had as his best man
Morrie Levin. The ushers were
Sam Lewis, Joe Levine, Nate
Steinback, and Dr. Henry Siegel.
About 60 out-of-town guests
were present.
Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Levy
are honeymooning at Charlevoix
for several weeks. They will be
at home on Euclid Ave. about
Sept. 1.

Dr. Harry Berman, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Berman of Cal-

and Cantor Mogill performed the
ceremony.
For her wedding the bride
chose a gown of pink tulle which
she wore over a slip of baby
blue. A Juliet cap of pink with
a narrow band of blue from
which dropped a shoulder length
veil adorned her head. She wore
blue elbow length mitts and blue
shoes which completed her cos-
tume. The bride carried a bou-
quet of talisman rose buds and
blue flowers.
Miss Anna Milstein was her
sister's maid of honor and wore
an acqua lace gown with hat to
match. Philip Berman attended
as best man. In the bridal nartlt
were: Mr. and Mrs. Ilarry Port-
ney, Miss Dianna Berman and
Nathan L. Milstein.
Following the ceremony a re.

Zedek for 400 guests.
