"THE GOLDBERGS"
ARE COMING BACK

Here is great news for the mil-
lions of radio listeners, Jewish and
Gentile alike, who enjoyed the
thrills, romance, suspense, excit-
ing action, comedy and all the
other elements of delightful en-
tertainment provided by one of the
most popular serials ever present-
ed on the air, "The Goldbergs."
Molly, Jake, Rosie, Sammy and
all the rest of the folks on this
fine program are returning to the
airlanes, beginning Yom Kippur
week—Sept. 13, to be exact—on a
coast-to-coast hookup of the Na-
tional Broadcasting System.
Gertrude Berg will again have
the triple role of author, director
and star in this radio show. Proc-
tor and Gamble have signed her
to a contract calling for weekly
performances over a five-year
period. The original cast will re-
turn to the show, Miss Berg says.
James R. Waters will again play
Jake Goldberg, the father, as he
has done so well in the past. Ros-
lyn Silber and Everett Sloane play
the children's parts, Rosie and
Sammy, "Whitey" will be back,
too.
When "The Goldbergs" was dis-
continued there was a great howl
of protest from listeners from New
York to California. Miss Berg has
been in Hollywood for the past six
months and has just completed
work on the script of Bobby
Breen's second film, "Make a
Wish."

Reference to the constitution in political
circles during the past few years, and especially
during the fight on the Supreme Court reform
measure, makes the availability of the Constitu-
tion to all citizens, and their acquaintance wtih
it, a matter of great civic importance.
On the occasion of the sesquicentennial of the
Constitution, the United States Constitution Ses-
quicentennial Commission, of which Congressman
Sol Bloom is director general, published a most
interesting and most information book, "The Story
of the Constitution," by Mr. Bloom. This volume,
in an inexpensive as well as de luxe editions, is
available from the commission at Washington.
In the introduction to this book Congressman
Bloom states that David M. Matteson, historian,
was responsible for the accuracy of texts and
statements. In the 190 pages of this volume the
story of the constitution is told clearly and
factually.
Starting out by telling the origin of the Con-
stitution, this book describes the work of the Con-
stitutional Convention, the various plans offered,
the compromise that was effected.
These introductions are followed by explanations
and interpretations of the Constitution and the
21 amendments. The texts as well as the explana-
tions are most valuable data and make this volume
an indispensable reference book.
Of unusual interest is the biographical section
of the book — containing pictures and brief
sketches of the men who signed the Constitution.
There are other documents in this book, in-
cluding the letter of George Washington as presi-
dent of the Constitutional Convention, submitting
the document to Congress; the convention's resolu-
tion, the dates of ratification, the tallies of votes
In the various states, as well as the list of states
admitted to the Union since the adoption of the
Constitution.
In addition to the general index there is an
"Alphabetical Analysis,' which enables the reader
to find any subject instanly.
Congressman Bloom's book is without doubt the
most interesting and most valuable published on
the subject. Reference libraries will be incomplete
without it, and the average American home will
be enriched by it. The de luxe edition is especially
suitable as a gift.

You can find plenty of political

can find just as many who believe
it foreshadows Lehman's definite

Highlights in Palestine Situation

A partial victory has been won in the fight
against the partition of Palestine. The Chamber.
lain government has yielded to the predominating
world opinion that the proposal of the Royal Com-
mission should not be adopted hastily. There is
to be greater deliberation on the plan for the
country's division. After the League of Nations
has debated the issue, the question will be re-
viewd again by Parliament, and there is hope that
the plan as proposed in the commission's report
will be revised to be in greater accord with the
pledges made to the Jewish people in the Balfour
Declaration and in the Mandate of the League of
Nations.
•

Boundary Line for Jewish State

One thing appears certain: the boundary line
for the Jewish state as proposed in the Royal
Commission report is to be enlarged. Apparently
the protests that greeted the report brought favor-
able results. In the course of the debate in the
House of Commons and the House of Lords there
were admissions by protagonists for the report
that there will be a change in the limitations upon
the territory to be set aside for a Jewish com-
monwealth. Thus, a partial victory has been won.
But the major. issues are yet to be decided. The
fight against the drastic curtailment of Jewish
opportunities in Palestine will go on until we are
given the opportunity to settle large numbers
of Jews in a territory that they can call their
own, where they can live in freedom and security.
