NEW YORK (WNS) — "Democracy can-

the emergence of a crisis in which the preju-

to their great hurt and to the humiliation and

writes in the current issue of the Christian Century, in
an article entitled "Judaism and Democracy."

by F. Raymond Daniell, special

in distributing recruiting litera-

strange liaison, this reputed com-
bination of patriots and followers
of an alien philosophy with whom
are allied a horde of heterogene-

Mr. Daniell also reports the ac-
tivities of the Young Nationalists

"Why have the Gentiles raged?"
asked the Psalmist more than
2,000 years ago. And the ques-

in this land of the free and home
of the brave. For although it is

current opposition to Zionism in
Jewish and fascist circles here,
"Israel," the weekly organ of
Italian Zionists, answered the
charges that Jews cannot be loyal
Fascists and Zionists at the same
time because Zionism is an instru-
ment of English imperialism by
pointing out that Zionism is old-
er than the British Mandate over
Palestine and that it existed when
Turkey ruled in the Holy Land.
The Zionist weekly also empha-
sizes that it is in Italy's interest
that Italian Jews should remain
Zionists because they may be
able to prevent Palestine from
becoming a British Dominion.
"Israel" also attacks the Italian
Jews who have repudiated Zion-
ism. Its bold attitude, however.
appears to have been futile be-
cause its Zionist stand has so
impaired its circulation that it is
now coming out only twice
monthly.

in a report which will be presented
to the World Conference of
Friends when it convenes here in
September. The report is made
by the sub-commission on "Meth-
ods of achieving racial justice."
"It would be advisable for
friends in every country to be
awake to the menace of a possible
spread of anti-Semitic feeling, and
to take action while there is still
time to prevent it," the report
states.
"Friends should everywhere op-
pose any action designed to penal-
ize people because of their reli-
gious beliefs, or of their race, or
of the color of their skin, and
should emphasize the value of
friendy personal relations between
people of different races on a
basis of mutual respect and cour-
tesy and understanding.

The report also urges Friends
to oppose slavery, native labor
systems analogous to slavery, a

a condition for employment or
citizenship, and any exchange in
control of holonial territories
without consent of the area's in-
habitants.
Rejects Separation Theory
In a section devoted to the
methods of advancing racial jus-
tice, the report rejects the theory
of "separatism," or the develop-

within or associated with the na-
tion, as impractical and undesir-
able.
Reorganization of the economic
system as a sole method for ad-
vancing racial justice is also re-
jected.
Other methods recommended
by the report for forwarding ra-
cial justice include the following:
sincerity; the ability to place
ones self in the place of another;
the compilation, interpretation
and presentation of facts, honest-
ly and without bias; natural and
wholesome contacts with other
races; the development of emo-
tional responses favorable to per-
sons of other race groups; long
time planning to improve the
economic opportunities of agri-
cultural and industrial workers;
the development of racial minor-
ity markets for high grade com-
modities; the study of elementary
and secondary school curricula as
they pertain to the interests and
opportunities for minority groups;
promotion of interracial organi-
zations; and the participation of
selected college students and
other mature youths in commu-
nity counselling.

LONDON (WNS) — An al-

partition plan proposes to set up
in Palestine is duo to the unoffi-
cial intervention of President
Roosevelt, the London Star as-
serts. According to the Star the
Jewish state will now include a
large part of Northern Pales-

don Jewish Chronicle reports that
Jerusalem also will be incorporated
in the Jewish state, although it
will have an international admin-
istration. Announcement that
the commission's report has been
signed has unloosed a new crop
of rumors concerning its contents,
of which the above are samples.
It is rumored that the British
government will not announce
the geographical boundaries of
the Jewish state or its future
policy in Palestine for some weeks
after the commission's report has
been made public. Another re-
port states that anti-Zionist mem-
bers of parliament intend to op-

the statue of a British dominion,
independence in foreign affairs
and membership in the League of

NEW YORK.—Invoking a treaty signed
by the United States with Great Britain in
1924, which made America a party to the
terms of the League of Nations Mandate for
Palestine, the 40th annual convention of the
Zionist Organization of America, meeting in

the Hotel Roosevelt, unanimously adopted a resolution
calling upon the government at Washington to intercede
with Great Britain to prevent any violation of the Man-
date arising from the recommendations of the Royal
Commission as a violation of the American-British pact.
The convention unanimously went on record in op-
