Beatrice Batter, a junior at
Wayne University, has been
awarded the Elsa F. Welling gift
memorial scholarship of the De-
troit section, National Council of
Jewish Women.
This award is given annually to
a Jewish girl of the junior class
with the highest scholastic rating
to enable her to complete her
senior year. She was selected by
Dean Waldo Leasinger, his assist-
ant, and Mrs. Herbert D. Robin-
son, chairman of the scholarship
committee of the Council.
This gift fund was established
in memory of the late Elsa F.
Welling by a group of her friends.
It is maintained by gifts and
memorial donations.
'Miss Baiter, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Elias Ballet, 1726 Ship-
herd St., was born in Bridgeport,
Conn., and came to this city at
the age of 2. She is a graduate
of Eastern High School. Major-
ing in art, she plans to teach that
subject in the public schools. She
was a feature writer of Collegiate
for one year and is president of
Sigma Theta Delta Sorority.
