INVEST IN HUMAN SOULS

An Appeal in Behalf of the Allied Jewish Campaign by
Detroit News Poet

By ANNE CAMPBELL

Money invested in bonds and stocks,
If you are lucky, brings interest.
Farmers put theirs into lands and flocks,
Everyone thinks his own way is best.
There is one method that does not fail;
Profits are certain, and good will rolls
Back from life's sea where our good ships sail,
If we invest it in human souls!

There are good mothers whose tears must fall;
Children who whimper from lack of food;
Old men with nobody left at all
Who care for them in vicissitude.
These are good risks for your surplus cash;
They will repay all your love and care.
Mending a life that has gone to smash
Will give a bonus your heart can share!

You are custodian of your wealth;
You are God's servant and lie will pay
With coins of happiness and good health
For all the money you give away!
They are His children—the least of these;
They who invite you to high new goals.
They need your money—your sympathies—
Why not invest it in human souls?

Condemned Jew's Parents Charge

He's Victim of ► Nazi
Frame-Up
PRAGUE (W N S)-1Ielmut

Ilirsch, the 21-year-old Jews, who
is under sentence of death in
Germany on a charge of high
treason growing out of his al-
leged attempt to assassinate a
high Nazi official, Is the victim
of a frame-up by which the Ger-
man government tried to involve
Czechoslovakia in an anti-Nazi
plot, it was charged here by Mr.
and Mrs. Siegfried Hirsch, the
condemned man's parents. In an
interview with a representative
of the Seven Arts Feature Syndi-
cate, they declared that their son
was never interested in politics
but was a devotee of tennis and
mountain-climbing. His interest
in the latter sport, they said, is
indirectly responsible for his
present plight. It is their belief
that his friends in Germany In-
vited him to come to the Reich for
mountain climbing and that as
soon as he crossed the Czech-
German border the Nazi police
arrested him. His trip to Ger-
many, his parents revealed, was
made against their advice, Mrs.
Hirsch admitted her fear that her
son might commit suicide before
the German government acted on
the mercy plea made to it by the
United States, which has interest-
ed itself in the case because Hel-
mut is an American citizen through
his grandfather's naturalization.
