thriller. It is replete with action
and with Arab intrigue. There is
the exciting background of inter-
national intrigue and plotting in
1920, and students of Near East-
ern affairs who like to have their
history dramatized will find this
a peach of a story.
By the same token, Fulton Our-
oiler's spiritual introspection will
be read with a great deal of In-
terest. It is a remarkably well
written essay, and is an able ex-
position of a subject that never
grows old.
But a reading of both books
serves to convince us of the truth
of the criticism that has long been
leveled against Arab guides who
are said to mislead and misguide
tourists in Palestine. It justifies
the criticism against tourist agen-
cies who are charged with spread-
ing anti-Jewish and anti-Zionist
propaganda. It justifies the
charge that the Zionist Organize.
tion numbers among its failures
the inability to gain a foothold
in this Important field of prepar-
ing able guides and of getting
Jewish guides into pivotal posi-
tions. Whether the obstacles in
the road are responsible Is an-
other question that has to be ad-
mitted into the argument.
It was Tumul, Arab-Christian
guide who was Oursler's informer.
There is much truth in the story.
But it is not the complete _story.
"The Zionist Jews has taken the
town over," Is a phrase typical of
this story.
"Jimgrim and Allah's Peace"
is full of stories about contem-
plated cutting of the throats of
the Jews. It is a tale of intrigue
that will frighten the average
Jewish reader. But it must be
taken into consideration that the
events spoken of deal with 1920
when there were about 75,000
Jews. Today there are six times
that many Jews in Palestine.
But Talbot Munday'a story does
not believe everything the Arabs
say and all their anti-Zionist pro-
paganda. It is a fair tale.
The lesson to be learned from
both books, however, is that there
is need for a program of enlight-
enment on the part of Zionists.
We have a chance to make more
friends than we have among non-
Jews We should strive to rally
our friends to our banner. A
wide educational program will en-
list such friends, and Jewry's
cause will gain by it.

Heller comes to the conclusion
that:
"Life is not an end in itself.
It is too incomplete and too

to be that. Not because a dictum
of religion proclaims it so, but
because his own nature will not
