This column mourns the death of
Maurice Caplan. As one of De-
troit's prominent Jews, he was al-
ways loyal, kind and generous, a
true sportsman and vibrant with
personality. "Cappy" a more
friends than any other Jew in De-
troit. As president of Franklin
Hills Country Club, he was an in-
spirational leader. His loss is a
distinct blow to this entire com-
munity. The sterling reputation
he leaves his family is a heritage
they can well cherish.

Mrs. Daniel Seigel, chairman
of the ladies' tournament com-
mittee, has announced that the
complete schedule of tournament
events for the ladies will be
published in this column soon.
Mrs. Seigel predicts this will be
a banner golf season for Knoll-
wood women golfers.

Open House on May 2

Detroit Lodge No. 65 Knight of
Pythias will sponsor a social eve-
ning for members and their friends
on Sunday, May 2.
Preparations are being made to
entertain members, friends and
guests with a card party, musical
program and refreshments, with-
out charge. It is the intention of
the membership committee to ac-
quaint the visitors with the facili-
ties of the building.
Last Tuesday night a large mem-
bership turned out to hear a
"Kiblets" debate. It developed into
• serious discussion as to how men
must conduct themselves in order
to make married life a happy
union.
Next Tuesday evening a discus-
sion by a prominent speaker will
take place on the subject of
whether fraternal lodges such as
the Knights of Pythias are a defi-
nite necessity in the community.
To fill the vacancy in the office
of inner guard, lsador Gruskin was
elected by a large majority.
The appointment of Robert Cole
as chairman of the athletic com-
mittee will start the athletic activ-
ities of the lodge for the spring
and summer.
Next Wednesday, April 27, the
10th bingo party of the series of
12 will take place in the lodge
hall. On May 2 the last party will
be held when the $300 cash prize
will be awarded to the winner.
Participants in the game on that
night will be the winners of the
12 games who will be the only ones
eligible.
