Union of American Hebrew Congregations Announces
Plan to Raise Fund for Excavation of
Kadash Barnes,
By ARTHUR J. LELYVELD
Secrete of the wilderness wan-
derings of the Jews, hidden for
more than two millenia by the
Arabian Desert, will be revealed
by the very Sunday School chil-
dren who study the Bible tales of
these wanderings.
This is the romantic plan just
announced by the Union of Amer-
ican Hebrew Congregations in a
campaign to raise a fund for the
excavation of Kadesh Barnes,
scene of the Israelites' sojourn in
Sinai after the exodus from Egypt.
Contributions from Children in
Sunday School of congregations af-
filiated with the Union will make
they can do to participate in it.
"We go to Qoseimah and we
drive into the desert," Dr. Gamo-
ran writes. "Like the Israelites of
old we are in search of life-giving
water. Suddenly we come to a
place called "Ain Qadeis," which
means the "Holy Well." Now it
is a barren area where no traces
of occupation can be seen. If you
are a good explorer you will find
here the three main sources of
water of the region-AM Qosei-
mah, Ain Qadeis and Ain Quderat.
The last is the strongest of the
three sources. Let us watch the
