Endorsements by Turover, Galician, Berdichever Societies

The Turuver Aid Society Issued a statement in which it similarly
endorsed the campaign. The statement made by the Turover Society
is signed by I. Sosnick, president, Julius Schwartz, vice-president,
Jacob Gorelick, second vice-president and Jacob Bobrin, secretary.
Following is the statement.
"The Allied Jewish Campaign is our opportunity to participate
in the difficult and trying tasks that we Jews are facing in our at-
tempts to maintain life on a . decent level, to ward off the attacks
of our enemies, and to lay the foundation for a happier and healthier
future. The Allied Jewish Campaign becomes the supreme obligation
of Detroit Jewry because it is the only instrument for service to
the oppressed and persecuted European countries. Tragic conditions
surround these Jews. They are deprived of all means of livelihood,
they are humiliated, they have reached the depth of despair. The
Allied Jewish Campaign rises to great heights in the present drive
by increasing its pledge for Polish relief this year and at the same
time carrying on the work in other countries.
"The Turover Aid Society has established a tradition for service
which we hope to exceed this year. We are In this mercy drive with
all our hearts.
"We, as the officers of the Turover Aid Society, are personally
moved more than ever to serve and to induce others to serve. This
is much more than a pledge of service. It is an assurance that we
are prepared to strive for a united Jewry, to work for the achieve-
ment of a happier status for our people. We hope that all the other
groups in the city will follow our example."
In behalf of the First Galician Society of Detroit, Henry Fen-
ster, president. declared that one institution should be the clearing
house for financing communities in distant corners of the earth and
that since the Jewish Welfare Federation through its Allied Jewish
Campaigns has done such splendid work in this connection, every ele-
ment of Detroit Jewry should support its efforts to secure funds for
the multitudes of Jewish people In dire need of assistance.
In the fallowing statement the Berdichever Verein through
Harry Cash, president; S. Sherman, vice-president; J. Resnick,
financial secretary; N. Bennish, treasurer, declares its whole-hearted
co-operation with the campaign:
"We, the officers of the Berdichever Verein, hope that every
individual in the community will lend an ear to the cry of the un-
fortunate and to succor those who need aid, by means of a substan-
tial contribution to the Allied Jewish Campaign.
"A pledge to the campaign means the mitigation of hardship,
the easing of pain, and the giving of bread to thousands of Jews
who endure a living torment in Poland, Germany and in other Euro-
pean countries. The Berdichever Verein has a long history of
service through the centrallized giving represented by the Allied
Jewish Campaign. We are confident in the 'knowledge that our
members will contribute liberally, as will also our verein collectively.
"We of the Berdichever are happy in the thought that each
year the leaders of the Allied Jewish Campaign are drawing closer
and closer to some of the Jewish things which are dear to us. Each
year there are being added different agencies which have not be-
fore been given any support.
"Locally, nationally and overseas, the Allied Jewish Campaign
is doing a splendid piece of work. It is • credit to our verein that
we are among the first ones this year to endorse the campaign."
The Keshenever Bessarsbier Unterstitzung Verein pledged its
president;
support in the following statement made by Louis Bassin.
J. Weinner. vice-president; S. Lieberman, financial secretary; M.
Levitt, treasurer:
"Last year our members provided not only individual contribu-
tions but worked as volunteers in the drive. This year we hope to
give more, to work harder, to be ever greater sharers in a great
effort.
