luncheon program with an address,
outlining the purposes of the fund
and introduced the chairman, Mrs.
Joshua S. Specks, who presented
the certificate for the Gabrilo-
'Mach Grove to Herman Weiss,
director of public information for
the Detroit Symphony Orchestra,
which co-operated in arranging
the program for the luncheon. Mr.
Weiss stated that a certificate will
find its way into the home of Mrs.
Gabrilowitsch.
A letter was read from Mrs.
Clara Gabrilowitsch expressing re-
grets at her inability to attend
the event.
The musical program was fea-
tured with violin selections by Ilya
Scbkolnik with Mischa Kottler at
the piano. Mr. Schkolnik's first
number was a piece which was
originally written for the piano by
Mr. Gabrilowitsch, but was im-
provised for the violin by Mr.
Schkolnik. It was explained by the
violinist that the last year of Mr.
Gabrilowitsch's life was a miser-
able one for him and he even lost
interest In music. Mr. Schkolnik,
therefore, arranged this Gabril-
owitsch selection for the violin and
played it in a room adjoining Mr.
Gabrilowitsch's during the latter's
illness. It so stirred the great
musician that he rallied in health
for a time and again re-acquired
his interest in music.
The principal address of the aft-
ernoon was delivered by Mrs.
Israel Goldstein, who made a stir-
ring plea for the Jewish National
Fund. She pointed out to the
women the the building of hospi-
tals and other institutions will be
a futile task in Palestine unless
that is done on Jewishly owned
land and unless the soil of Pales-
tine is redeemed by the entire peo-
ple to be possessed and never to be
released by the Jews.
Mrs. Goldstein was a guest at a

Gabrilowitsch following the lunch-
eon, and in the evening was guest
at a reception given in her honor
at the home of Mrs. John Hayman
on LaSalle Blvd.
