CELEBRATE PURIM

The time-honored tradition of
Shalach Monos, exchange of gifts,
will be observed by thousands of
American Jews in a manner that
will make each gift a factor in the
cause of Palestine Land Redemp-
tion.
On the occasion of Purim, oc-
curring on Feb. 25, Jewish Na-
tional Fund , councils and commit-
tees in many communities through.
out the nation, including Detroit,
have arranged to present Keren
Kayemeth souvenirs or Palestine-
made fruits and candies as Purim
gifts in exchange for which con-
tributions for the furtherance of
Palestine Land Redemption are to
be made. An appeal by mail has
gone out from Jewish National
Fund headquarters in New York
to scores of thousands of Ameri-
can Jews to observe the "Shalach

Jfonos" tradition by sending on '8

meth.
"A flood of hatred and persecu-
tion, like in• the days of Haman
and Esther, is rising against many
sections of our people. To stem the
tide, the Jewish will must be bent
on preserving and extending the
positive values in Jewish life, As
never before, the energies of the
Jewish people are engaged in the
constructive task of upbuilding the
Jewish National Home in Pales-
tine. In this upbuilding work,
land ... drainage water .. .
and afforestation . . . are •indis-
pensable essentials. These four
objectives are being attained
through the realization of the Jew-

lets depicting the life of Queen
Esther are being staged by chil-
dren of all ages. The story of
the festival as well as the historic
background is the subject of
many lessons. In the higher
classes, the book of Esther is be-
ing studied in the original, while
in the lower classes abridged
stories are being used.
Each school will have its own
program, both for the children
and their parents. The dates set
for these programs is either Wed-
nesday, Feb. 24, the day of the
Feast of Esther, at 4 p. m., or
Sunday morning, Feb. 28. These
programs are arranged jointly by
all the teachers, each teacher pre-
paring a certain feature of the
entire program. Some are in
charge of mass singing, other ar-
range for playlets and pageants,
and still others are responsible
for the narrative side of the his-
toric events. Children as well as
parents are looking forward to
this event.
