Banquet Planned
By Gewerkshaften
Adopting the successful methods
used in Chicago and other large
cities, the second meeting of the
conference of delegates to the De-
troit Gewerkshaften Campaign,
held Thursday evening, Dec. 3, de-
cided to have a banquet on Feb.
14. To this banquet, as guests of
the campaign, will be invited
donors and workers, who have
either given or raised a minimum
of $12.00 for the campaign.
Delegates from over 60 of De-
troit's Jewish labor, professional
and fraternal organizations en-
thusiastically agreed upon this
plan, and pledged their organiza-
tions to increased activity on be-
half of the campaign. Many of
these organizations have already
worked out plans for Paltstine
Evenings with the campaign or-
ganizations committee which is
furnishing, to all interested or-
ganizations, speakers, music and
Palestinian films.
An additional feature of the con-
ference meeting was a report by
Delegate D. Sislin of the proceed-
ings of the national convention of
the Gewerkshaften campaign held
in New York on Nov. 29. At this
convention some 1600 delegates
from all parts of the United States
and Canada met and discussed me-
thods of raising this year's na-
tional quota of $500,000. Welcom-
ing addresses and pledges of con-
tinued support came from
Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, Abraham
Cahan and Joseph Schlossberg. An
interesting decision of the national
convention was that of sending a
trade union delegation to England
and France, In order to stimulate
additional interest in these coun-
tries for future activities in re-
building Palestine.
The next meeting of the con-
ference will be held Thursday,
Dec. 17.
