Shapero, who for almost a score of years has distributed baskets of food to the needy of both the Jewish and Christian faiths. A list" of deserv- ing families is submitted to Mr. Shapero by the welfare agencies of Detroit, and with each year the nu mber has increased Through• out these years, the reciprocants have never been informed as to the identity of their donor. The entire project is carried on through volunteer work, and there Is one unbreakable rule-that no chauffeur shall deliver any of the baskets. Mr. Shapero feels that if anyone of the group who assists him feels as impersonal and in- different as to allow a substitute to distribute these baskets, he can procure the services of another more interested and devoted volun- teer, All the food Is packed on the Tuesday preceding Thanksgiving in a room donated for that purpose in the General Motors Bldg. In order to adhere to the dietary laws, fish is given to the Jewish families while Gentiles receive meat. nlcluded in the baskets are cereals, fruits, vegetables, sugar, flour and many other necessary foodstuffs.
