Special Program Arranged for First of Series of Friday
Night Services to Be Resumed by This
Congregation

Congregation B'nai David, Elm-
hurst at 14th, will resume its Fri-
day night gatherings this season
on Friday evening, Nov. 20.' The
opening gathering of this year will
be devoted to the occasion of the
80th birthday of U. S. Supreme
Court Justice Louis D. Brandeis.
Judge Joseph B. Moynihan and
Judge James Ellmann will partici-
pate in a symposium on "Brandeis
the Jurist and Brandeis the Jew."
The B'nai David Friday night
gatherings were not designed to
substitute for early Friday eve-
ning services, but rather to re-in-
troduce the original Shaboss and
provide a real Shaboss spirit for
members and friends of the syna-
gogue.
At 8:30 the program will begin
with a brief prayer followed by a
hymn sung by the entire congre-

gallon. A lecture will be delivered
at 8:40 and will be followed by an
other hymn and a closing prayer.
The social hour will be from 9:30
to 10 p. m. during which refresh-
ments will be served. From 10 to
10:45 p. m. a program will take
place in the social hall. Commu-
nity singing of Zemiroth, national
and folk songs will be followed by
a review of the news of the week
to be given by William Hordes.
This season two new features
will be added on the social pro-
gram. Every Friday night a dra-
matic sketch will be presented
either by the dramatic circle of the
Sisterhood or the Young People's
Society. A choir has been organ-
ized by Louis Russman and will
render various songs on the pro-
gram. The evening will be closed
by singing of "Hatikvah."

Petach Tikvah Goes 100 Per Cent
Jewish Labor

PETACH TIKVAH, Palestine.
—(WNS-Palcor Agency) — For
the first time since its establish-
ment 68 years ago, this "Slather
of Jewish Plantations Colonies"
has gone completely Jewish, A
Jewish Agency estimate of labor
employed just published shows
that Petach Tikvah, known at one
time for its disproportion of Arab
workingmen, is now as Jewish as
any Keren Ilayesod settlement.
The census was carried out about
the middle of September and it
was then revealed that 1,531 Jew-
ish laborers and only one Arab
were then employed in Jewish
groves. Total- area of plantations
here-abouts covered was 20,000
dunams; in 1927, this was the en-
tire area grown by Jews through-
out Palestine.

Arab•Jewish Co-operation in
Palestine

NAGPUR, India. — (NCJC) —
Jawaharlal Nehru, president of
the Indian National Congress.
speaking at a public meeting in
Allahabad, asserted that "the
Jews have been and are the vic-
tims of a cruel Fascism and we
must feel for their sufferings.
It is a misfortune that they should
allow themselves to be exploited
in Palestine by British imperial-
ism. Their future in Palestine lies
in co-operation with the Arabs
and in recognition of the fact that
Palestine is and must continue to
be an essentially Arab country."
He pointed out that if that is
admitted, "co-operation is easy
and Jews will be welcomed in
Palestine to help, as they are in
a position to do, in the develop-
ment of the country. Arabs and
Jews have co-operated in the past
and lived together as friends.
There is no reason why they
should not do so again."

Royal Commission Leaves for
Palestine Neat Week
LONDON (WNS) — The Roya l
Commission headed by Lord Peel ,
which was appointed by King Ed-
ward to Investigate the causes of
the Palestine disturbances which
started April 19 last, will leave
for the Holy Land next week be-
cause of the fact that the country
is now quiet and normalcy has
been resumed, It was announced
in the House of Commons by the
Rt. lion. W. G. A. Ormsby-Gore,
British Secretary of State for the
colonies. -In- reviewing the situa-
tion since the end of the Arab
general strike, the Colonial Secre-
tary declared that there had been
rapid improvement and that only
small, isolated incidents had oc-
curred, with a few armed bands
still in operation, including non-
Palestinians. The figures supplied
by the Secretary stated that since
the disorders started there had
been 1,643 casualties, of which
314 had been deaths. These fig-
ures were at variance with those
estimated' on the basis of daily
news dispatches.
