est Jewish group serving upon the staff of any
prosecuting attorney in the past, are in position
to understand and estimate accurately the

Chaim Pupko, representative of
the Dr. S. Dubnow Fund of Paris,
which is issuing the 20 volume
encyclopedia in Yiddish, is a guest
in Detroit and has already secured
a number of subscribers for this
important literary work.
Mr. Pupko can be reached at the
Mt. Royal Hotel, where he will
remain for another two weeks.
Two volumes of the 20 Yiddish
encyclopedias have already ap-
peared and the third volume will
be published in December. It is
planned by the Dubnow Fund to
publish three volumes a year and
to have the whole set completed
within five years. The entire set
of 20 volumes sells for $100.
Mr. Pupko, who.is a Vilna edu-
cator, is assisted in his work in
Detroit by a committee represent-
ing the Jewish National Workers'
Alliance, consisting of Ben Rosen-
thal, B. M. Leiken, M. Chafetz,
Morris Scheyer and Osher Gold-
berg.
The encyclopedia is an interest-
ing work and is not only excellent-
ly put up from the literary point
of view but is also a very fine
artistic creation.

At the assembly of the high
school of Temple Beth El on Sun-
day morning, Milton R. Frank, as-
sistant director of the Exceptional
Photoplays Department of the U.
S. Government, will present the
musical movie play entitled "The
Plow that Broke the Plains," a
saga of the land of the great plains
area of the United States.
The play was written by Pare
Lorentz who also directed the pro-
duction. The musical score on
American themes was composed by
Virgil Thomson, a famous young
American composer, and it was
played by musicians from the
Metropolitan Opera Association
and the New York Philharmonic
Orchestra under the direction of
Alexander R. Smallens.
While the production is to be
especially presented to the stu-
dents of the high school depart-
ment, adults are invited to see the
picture and to hear the accompany-
ing talk which will be given in
the Brown Memorial Chapel Sun-
day morning at 10:30.
We have no doubt that all the insinuation
and evil that his opponent in the past few
weeks has uttered against him are only so ex-
pressed in order to promote his own political
success, and emanate from a heart that is not
deserving of the support of the Jewish
community.
And so, we do not hesitate to leave you to
be the judges next Tuesday, and we are con-
vinced that in all time to come, the Jews,
whether rich or poor, will ever receive a dis-
interested and friendly consideration from the
man who is willing to stand for the principles
which lie so dear to the heart of every Jewish
man and woman.

The second meeting of the
Young People's Society will be
held on Sunday, Nov. 1, at 3:30
p. m. sharp, in Room 302. A dis-
tinguished speaker will address
the group. Invitations are being
sent out for that meeting. Chil-
dren of members of the syna-
gogue, who are 20 years or over,
however, may consider this an-
nouncement as an invitation to
attend the meeting and join the
organization.
The first meeting was very
successful with more than 100
people attending. Mordecai I.
Soloff, educational director of the
synagogue, and Arthur Purdy,
chairman of the organization com-
mittee of the synagogue, ad-
dressed the group. Tea and cookies
were served during the social
hour.
