Membership Campaign to be Cli-

The outstanding feature of the
membership campaign of Junior
Iladassah will be in the form of a
tea dance to be held on Sunday
afternoon, Nov. 8, from 3 to 6, at
the Detroit Leland Hotel, This af-
fair will be limited to paid-up
members only, and it is suggested
that all young Jewish women from
the ages of 18 upwards who wish
to affiliate themselves with the
worthwhile projects of this organ-
ization and who wish to avail
themselves of the privilege of at-
tending this unique and enjoyable
social affair, communicate with
Sophie B. Schwartz, president of
the organization, Euclid 8292-W,
or Miss Bertha Yackness, co-chair-
man of the membership committee,
Townsend 6-5290,
Miss Esther Etkin, chairman of
the tea dance, announces that as a
special attraction the music of
Johnny Akins and his Bonny
Brook Country Club orchestra has
been engaged for the afternoon.
Several hundred eligible young
men are being sent invitations to
this affair. Admission will be by
paid-up membership card and In-
vitation only.
At a recent meeting of the mem-
bership committee, Miss Bertha
Yackness, co-chairman of the com-
mittee, announced that in addition
to the tea dance, extensive plans
are under consideration for an in-
tensive membership campaign. As
one of these plans it was decided
that the general membership of
the organization is to be divided
into groups of 12 members, each
group to be sponsored by ■ cap-
tain, whose duty it will be to ac-
quaint each member of her group
with each other at a series of so-
cial gatherings, at which time they
will be familiarized with the pro-
jects and undertakings of Junior
Hadassah and will be assigned to
the work of the committee in which
they are most interested.
Miss Pauline Barahal, chairman
of the cultural committee, an-
nounces that the idea which was
inaugurated last year of monthly
Palestinean night gatherings, will
be continued this season. The first
affair of this naturb will take
place on Thursday, Oct. 29, at
Miss Bambara home, 2496 Blaine,
at which time a discussion of cur-
rent events in Palestine and its re-
lation to Junior Hadassah projects
will be held, in addition to a social
evening. All members and pros-
pects are invited.
Plans for the annual Thanks-
giving night dance have been defi-
nitely put into action, according to
Miss Ann Brooks, chairman of the
affair. The fountain ballroom at
the Masonic Temple has been pro-
cured. The proceeds will go to
make up the quota of the organi-
zation to be sent to Palestine to
maintain various institutions sup-
ported there.
Marvin Kahn and his orchestra
will provide the music.
Tickets may be secured at the
weekly Wednesday night meetings
at the home of Miss Sophie B.

FRITZ KUHN'S APPEAL TO NAZIS
IN U. S. IN BEHALF OF LANDON
REPUDIATED BY GERMANS HERE
The German-American League
for Culture, an avowed anti-Nazi
organization composed of German-
Americans, on Thursday after-
noon issued a statement through
the Detroit Jewish Chronicle re-
pudiating Fritz Kuhn's appeal to
the Germans of this country to
vote for Governor Landon be-
cause they consider him more
friendly to Adolf Hitler.
Without taking sides in the poli-
tical battle for the presidency,
the German-American League for
Culture declares that Fritz Kuhn
speaks only for a handful of Ger-
man-Americans who are inbued
with Nazi ideas and maintains
that the vast number of Ameri-
cans with German descent have
no such affiliations.
The statement was made by
Anton Jacobs of 2121 Gratiot
Ave., president of the Detroit
chapter of the German-American
League for Culture, as well as the
midwestern conclave of this or-
ganization. Hugo Miller is secre-
tary of the Detroit branch.
The statement issued by Mr.
Jacobs follows:
"Endorsement of Landon for
President by Mr. Fritz Kuhn, head
of the German-American Yolks-
bund, formerly Friends of New
Germany, the Nazi affiliate in the
United States, was undoubtedly
performed in accordance with th e
Nazi wishes of the rulers of Ger-
many. This organization Is di-
rectly under the leadership and
instructions of Hitler's foreign
office. Mr. Kuhn recently returned
from Germany which he visited
during the Olympic games at
which time he had an Interview
with Adolf Hitler.
"But it would be entirely wrong
to conclude that this endorsement
represents the sentiments of all
the German speaking people of
the United States. Mr. Kuhn's or-
ganization has been dwindling in
the past two years. In the city of
Detroit, which Is the headquarters
of the National organization, the
membership is no more than 45.
Nationally there has been a con
responding decline, which is a re'
flection of the growing anti-Nazi
sentiment among the German
people due to first hand informa-
tion of the bad plight of the Ger-
man people.
The manner in which Fritz
Kuhn makes his endorsement, dis-
regards, in true Nazi fashion, any
Democratic procedure. It has the
"Fuehrer" (leader) mania, not-
withstanding the fact that he is
living in a Democratic country.
"The press report of this en-
dorsement is important only be-
