NEIGHBORHOOD SHOP POLOZKER According to her report, more than 100 families were given cash emergency relief, Many inade- quate food budgets were supple- mented, especially where illness demanded special diet. Rents were paid to prevent evictions and partial payments on gas and light bills to prevent shut-offs. A large number of indigent families were supplied with milk daily. The North End Clinic called upon the society for sup- plementation of milk for several cases. Transportation to and from the clinic was paid. Rehabilitation of unfortunates was effected through their re-es- tablishment in trades and business by the payment of licenses for ice cream, junk, ice, fruit and vege- table peddling, etc. Ads were in- serted in the papers for rental of rooms to enable families to pay their rents. Through the efforts of the Home Relief Society, a destitute refugee rabbi from Germany was sent to New York where his friends hoped to do something for him. Several other rabbis suf- fering hardships sought aid and were given relief. The home Relief Society par- ticipated with other organizations in the annual food shower spon- sored for the benefit of the chil- dren of the summer play school at the Community Center. The Ilome Relief Society works for and contributes to the Moos Chaim (Passover Relief), the Community Fund, the Allied Jew- ish Campaign and the Ilome for the Aged. For Passover, in addi- tion to the cash donation, a linen shower was sponsored by the hon- orary president, Mrs. II. Shulman. A hobpital visiting committee regularly visited the sick at North- ville, Eloise and other institu- tions, especially before and dur- ing the holidays. Food and deli- cacies were presented to those confined. Whenever possible, a rabbi accompanied this commit- tee and rendered a program of cheer. The budget to provide the fore- going was raised through the med- ium of the society', annual din- ner-dance. The Home Relief So- ciety does not otherwise solicit for funds to carry on this won- derful work. Mrs. Bernard Komer conducted the special meeting on Monday, Oct. 5, at the home of Mrs. R.
