NEUTRALITY ISSUES ON FORUM PROGRAM Senator Nye to Debate Dr. Eichelberger at Temple Beth El A stirring event on the program of the Temple Forum, Temple Beth El, during the coming season, will he a debate between Senator Ger- ald P. Nye, the author of the neu- trality legislation, and Dr. C. M. Eichelberger, the executive direc- tor of.the_Leagaesit Nations Mso- elation of America. They will de- bate the proposition Can Amer- ica be Neutral?" Senator Nye will uphold the doctrine that America stands ready to make such sacri- fices in trade and world influence as will permit her to be absolutely unaffected by any struggle, no matter how widespread, that may be going on in Europe. Dr. Eichel- berger will argue that, no matter how hard America may try to keep aloof from Europe, she will ine- vitably be dragged into the first major conflict that breaks out. It would therefore be better for America to join the League of Na- tions and other world peace agen- cies to prevent the conflict, than to stake anything upon the hope that she will be able to keep out of the struggle once it has begun. Presiding over the debate and the discussions following the lec- tures will be Rabbi Leon Fram. Other lecturers on the program will be: Norman Thomas, Sir Wil- mott Lewis, Dr. John Erskine, Will Irwin, Dr. Stanley Rypins, Prince and Princess Loewenstein, Dr. Stanley High, Herbert Agar, Louis Corey. All seats at the Temple will be reserved. The best seats will go to those who are the first to pur- chase their season tickets. The season tickets for the series of 10 events are $4. Individual admis- sions will be 65c per person. Concluding the Series: Fascism at Our Gates 2 JEWISH LABORERS SHOT FROM AMBUSH Unique Exhibits Planned by Participating Jewish Groups Detroit rabbis issued a joint ap- peal to local Jewry to give un- stinted material support to their persecuted brethren in Poland dur- ing the High Holy Days. Copies of this touching plea have been sent to presidents of congre- gations by Rabbi Joshua S. Sper- ka, chairman of the committee on religious organizations, and Henry M. Abramovitz, chairman of the American Committee Appeal, ask- ing that they take the lead in their synagogues in this humanitarian work by appointing active commit- tees. All funds collected should be turned over to the treasurer, Jo- seph H. Ehrlich, 237 Gratiot, a, speedily as possible for transmis- sion to Poland. The Rabbis' Appeal The appeal was signed by Rab- bis Joseph Eisenman, S. M. Fine, Moses Fischer, S. Kleinplatz, J. Rabinowitz, A. Schechter, Joshua S. Sperka, Isaac Stollman, S. Strauss, J. Thumim and M. Zager and reads as follows: "Mindful as we are that this singular and single major spirit. ual expression of High Holy Days' attendance be utilized for our spiritual regeneration still we ask that synagogues of Detroit devote one day of the Yomim Noroim for • special appeal for funds for the relief of the -sinking portion of Jewry—the Jews of Poland. "It is told that the Chief Rabbi Something Must Be Done at Once There are certain important facts about all of the Fascist anti- Semitic groups that I have en- umerated which must be kept in mind if they are to be understood. Their theories bear a striking re- semblance. Many of them believe that the source of our trouble is gold. The gold standard is a Jewish invention inasmuch as the Jews have control of the gold of the world. Therefore, destroy the gold standard and the Jews are defeated. Such is their simple logic. The facts which I have enum- erated about the views of these groups concerning Communism Jewry's prayers on the New Year are for the blessings not only for Blow ye at New Moon the trumpet. To the Chief on whose breast Right is borne, Who is served by the seed to Him sworn, Who gathereth lilies from thorn, Blow ye at New Moon the trumpet.
