and THE LEGAL CHRONICLE

L. A. S. Auxiliary
Moonlight Aug. 23

The Detroit Auxiliary of the
Los Angeles Sanatorium will spon-
sor its annual moonlight on the
Steamer Columbia, on Sunday,
Aug. 23, at 8:30 p. m. Del Del-
bridge, Detroit's favorite radio
and stage star, will personally di-
rect his orchestra. Singers, enter-
tainers and other added attrac-
Lona will be featured.
Steamer Columbia leaves the
foot of Woodward Ave., promptly
at 8:30 p. m.
Tickets sold in advance are 50c.
At the dock the charge will be
65c. Special concessions will be
made to organizations of 100 tick-
ets for $35.
The proceeds of this moonlight
will be utilized to maintain De-
troit's indigent consumptives in the
Los Angeles Sanatorium and Ex-
Patients Ilome.
The institutions are now over-
crowded, and there are many
clamoring for admission, among
them seven Detroit pathetic cases.
The convention, recently held in
Los Angeles, decided to enlarge
the capacity of the sanatorium. It
has issued a call for a special cam-
paign for funds. This moonlight
is staged to enable Detroit to make
good its quota of $25,000. The
public is invited to attend this
event and to help this important
cause.

Rabbi Newman Cites Encyclical
on Movies Which Speaks of
Inter-Faith Collaboration

NEW YORK (NCJC) — Com-
menting upon the encyclical on
motion pictures recently issued by
Pope Pius XI, Rabbi Louis I.
Newman of New York, in his
weekly column syndicated to Jew-
ish papers, asserts that this is one
of the very finest encyclicals
which speaks of Protestants and
Jews in terms of collaboration.
"The pope deals with these non-
Catholics as peers and equals,
not in any missionary or conver-
sionist spirit," Rabbi Newman de-
clares, adding:
"Just as the political parties of
the world are going 'leftist,' so
the Catholic Church, which has
often stood aloof from the vexa-
tious problems of the age, is go-
ing decidedly 'modernist," and is
voicing its program in terms
which seem rather to fit the liber-
al non-Catholic denominations."
