$10,000 TO J. N. F.

The largest individual bequest ever to be made to a local
Jewish cause was made public this week with the announcement
that Miss Carrie Sittig Cohen, who died on July 13, willed the bulk
of her estate to the United Jewish Charities.
Fred M. Butzel, vice-president of the United Jewish Chari-
ties, estimates that the amount bequeathed will be in excess of

$100,000.

The will, which comes up for probate soon, makes a number

of minor bequests to relatives and to Miss Marie S. Walters who has been in her
employ for years, and provides for the large balance to be used by the United Jewish
Charities "either to erect a building or some necessary addition to a building they al-
ready have," and further provides that such a building or addition to an existing
building be "made a memorial to my family by calling it The Simon Cohen Family
Building,' and then designating in some way the name of each member of the family
as follows: Simon Cohen, father; Rose Sittig Cohen, mother; Solomon Cohen, son;
Joshua Cohen, son; Carrie Sittig Cohen, daughter."
A further provision is made in the will that if the estate is not large enough in
