HISTORY AND BUSINESS

Asphalt Products, Inc., is the only manufacturer of asphalt roofings and shingles in the state of Michigan. Production
was begun April I, 1936, with a very substantial volume of business from established trade outlets. TN" volume has increased

steadily, reaching a point beyond normal expectations which has necessitated the stepping up of operations from t-hour to

12-hour shifts.

PLANT AND EQUIPMENT

The company occupies a fine, modern plant consisting of four buildings located on a main junction siding of the Michigan
Central Railroad and fronting on Federal Avenue, Detroit. New equipment of the very latest type and designed expressly fo:
the company, facilitates speedy production and low cost operating efficiency without any sacrifice in quality or manufacturing
with
perfection. An expansion program, including the addition of second complete manufacturing unit, is already under way.
the probability of just such expansion in view, the plant was originally designed to accommodate an additional manufacturing unit
with the result that it will be added with relatively little cost and without any interruption in operations.

PRODUCTS

Federal Asphalt ProduCts, Inc., products roofing products for every type of building and in wide variety, including asphalt
shingles, in a large assortment of designs and colors, roll roofings, waterproof felts, etc. In addition to the well established
roofing market the company is interesting itself particularly in the developing of outlets through motor Car manufacturers.
Officials state that the automotive trade, already a large user of asphalt products, represents an extremely large and attractive
market which will be especially important to the company because of its proximity to the motor industry. The additional
manufacturing unit mentioned above has been designed particularly to meet the needs of the automotive industry.

MARKETS

Federal products are sold on a wholesale basis to recognized trade outlets including hardware, lumber, roofing and Lett metal
jobbers throughout the country. Due to freight savings, the company enjoys distinct advantage, over firms outside the state in
supplying the Detroit trade and industrial areas. The plant is operated with low overhead. and this plus the production efficiency
and
of its new and modern equipment, enables profitable distribution of its products throughout a wide territory in the East
Middle West. Recent increased building activities have afficted the roofing market very favorably. Reports authorized by the
Department of Commerce reveal an increase of more than 407s in shipments of prepared asphalt roofings during the first four
months of 19)6 as compared with the same period in 1933.

MANAGEMENT

its products have been on the market less than three months. the ability of its executive and management staff
already has been impressively reflected in the pacers attained to date. Nathan Fishman, President and General Manager, is one
of the best known figures in the roofing industry, having been associated with the businesa for many years. The unusual progress
made by the company in so short a time emphasizes recognition of his competence. Associated with him are men with records of long
and successful experience in the industry. C. J. Dunham, Sales Manager, was for fifteen year; identified with the Sales Depart-
ments of two of the country's largest roofing manufacturers. C. F. Humble, Superintendent of Production, hat been in the manu-
facturing end of the bunions for more than twenty years. Officer, are: Nathan Fuhman, President; Edward R. Stanton, Vice
President; A. 0. Barsky, Secretary; Meyer M. Fishman. Treasurer.
