Bernard Gettelman, Jewish at-
torney from Milwaukee and one
of the leaders of the forces com-
mitted to the presidential can-
didacy of Senator William G.
Borah, fell the distinction of mak-
ing the motion to nominate Gov-
ernor Alfred M. Landon as the
unanimous choice of the Repub-
lican National Convention for
president. After the roll call on
nominations had been completed,
Bertrand Snell, permanent. chair-
man, recognized Mr. Gettelman
who announced that he moved to
make Mr. Landon's nomination
unanimous. In the roll call Sena-
tor Borah had received 16 votes
to 984 for Mr. Landon. Of the
16 votes for Senator Borah, six
were cast by the Wisconsin dele-
gation.
Before the convention closed,
William Stern of North Dakota
was elected to the Republican Na-
tional Committee, the only Jew
named to that body. Joseph Lev-
inson of New York was named to
the committee to inform the vice-
presidential candidate of his nom-
ination. Paul Rothenberg of Il-
linois and Nat M. Levy of Mis-
souri served on the committee on
permanent organization, Albert
Rosenshine of California and
Harry Levin of Maryland served
on the rules committee.
