To Build New Quarters for Jaffa
Refugees
JERUSALEM (WNS — Paton.
Agency)—The building of a new
quarter for the Jewish refugees
from Jaffa was discussed at a
joint meeting of the Jewish
Agency, officers of the Tel Aviv
municipality and the Keren Kaye-
meth. A joint committee was
elected to submit to the Govern.
ment a request for assistance in
establishing new homes for those
who had fled from the Arab at-
tacks to seek safety in Tel Aviv.

Orthodox Youth
NE WYORK. The national
board of Hadassah, the Women's
Zionist Organization of America,
voted a grant of $15,000 to erect
dwellings for Orthodox Jewish
youth sent to Palestine from Ger-
many through the Youth Aliyah.
Mrs. Edward Jacobs, national
president of Iladassah, said the
money would be sent to Miss Hen-
rietta Szold, honorary president
of Hadassah and director of the
Youth Aliyah movement, with
headquarters in Jerusalem.

Mordecai Ben Hillel HaCohen Is
Elected Freeman of Tel Aviv
The 80th birthday of Mordecai
Ben Hillel HaCohen, famous He-
brew author, was celebrated by
the municipality of Tel Aviv
which elected him a "freeman"
of the city, an honor accorded to
but 17 other individuals in the
community's history. Born in
Mohilev of • wealthy family, Ha-
Cohen received an excellent Jew-
ish education. His career as a
Hebrew writer began when he
was only 18. For many years he
continued his literary work In
the midst of an active career in
Ma father's business In St. Peters-
burg. But after while he gave
up business to devote himself com-
pletely to writing, joining the
editorial board of Rassweit in
1881. In the years that followed,
he was one of the most Influential
limes in the Chovevei Zion
movement.
