Detroit Chapter of Hadassah wishes to remind members and friends of the beautiful tribute of honoring mothers by planting trees in Palestine either in honor or in memory of mothers on Moth- er's Day, May 10. Mother's Day is an America n institution adopted after a procla mation by the late President Woodrow Wilson in 1910. Shortl y after members of Hadassah con- ceived the idea of honoring moth- ers by planting trees through the Jewish National Fund to serve as living tributes and everlasting memorials. Trees may be planted for a nominal sum of $1.50. Over a million trees have been planted through the Jewish National Fund and many prominent people have thus been honored. Whole forests have been planted in honor of George Washington and Franklin D. Roosevelt. Trees have been planted in the barren areas and in swamps and have aided materially in increas- ing fertility and irrigation. By planting a tree in Palestine on Mother's Day, in honor of mother, instead of presenting a material gift, one presents • per- manent gift which will aid in the upbuilding of the Jewish Home- land. An attractive Mother's Day card is sent either to the donor or the recipient. Mrs. S. L. Kavanau, chairman of the Jewish National Fund com- mittee is in charge of tree plant- ing for Iladassah. She wilt be glad to give any further informa- tion that may be desired. Mrs. Kavanau's address is 1999 Calvert Ave. Her telephone number is Townsend 7-1054.
