since the World War have the na-

Under the leadership of Felix M.

philanthropist, the American Jew-
ish Joint Distribution Committee,
100 East 42nd Street, New York
City, is conducting for 1936 a na-
tional campaign for 53,500,000 to
continue Its acitIvities of relief and
reconstruction in behalf of needy
and oppressed Jews In Central and
Eastern Europe.
Leaders to the United States have
set that sum as the irreducible mini-
mum necessary to continue that or-
'sanitation's program of aid for Jews
of Germany, refugees who have fled
to France, Holland, Cxecho-Slovakia
and other countries, and the millions
in Poland, Roumania and other East
European countries.
As part of its program the J. D. C.

which It is hoped will enable over
a four • year period approximately
20 000 to 25,000 employable young
Jews yearly to emigrate from Ger-
many.
Since 1933 the J. D. C. has spent
approximately $2,000,000 for help to
Jews In Germany and In refugee
lands. Many non-Jews are among
those receiving this aid. In the past
21 years it has raised and disbursed
over 894.000,000 to aid several mil-

tions. It is acknowlegded to be the

CHILDREN OF THE NEW PALESTINE ARE SHOWN HERE IN A
SCENE FROM THE "LAND OF PROMISE," LEARNING TO
CULTIVATE THE REVITALIZED SOIL

"The Land of Promise," which so graphically depicts the build-
ing of Palestine culturally and economically, stresses the educational
aspect of the renaissance. After 2,000 years of commercial enter-
prise the Jewish people are turning toward an agricultural society.
Palestine youth is receiving a thorough grounding in the funda-
mentals of farming. From early childhood, children of Palestine
are taught that the soil is the foundation of life and as such should
be studied in all its aspects.
Scenes In this Palestine film, which is to be shown at Littman's
People's Theater beginning April 24, emphasize the importance of this
new development in Jewish life. The children are shown exercising
out-of-doors, playing with fanning implements and as they grow
older. taking a prominent part in the actual care of the soil.
The child sequences in the film are woven into the moving drama
of a people seeking happiness and liberty in the ancient home of
their forefathers. It is expected that everyone viewing the "Land
of Promise" will see and feel the enthusiasm of these pioneers, who
are recapturing the wilderness for civilization .
