Of all the things that enter into the celebration of Passover, prob- ably nothing is as important as matzo. Matzo and Passover are inseparable; it is impossible to think of one without thinking of the other. And the success of the Passover holidays depends upon good matzo. For almost half a century, the name of Manischewitz has been linked with good matzo, and today more so than ever. This name has circled the world, establishing a great reputation for the quality of its product. In remote lands where Jews gather to celebrate Passover, the matzo on the table is usually Manischewitz Matzo. Naturally, there are many rea- sons for the great popularity of this matzo. One of the most im- portant, is its Kashruth. This is sATISFYING LIEN FOR OVER 11 YEARS carefully guarded as a priceless possession; a rabbinical staff is in constant supervision of the baking of Manischewitz Matzos. Every traditional rule is zealously ob- served. Those who have used Mania- chewitz Matzo in the past, tell of 145 MICHIGAN AVE. its finer taste, The baking itself is carried on with scientific precision and skill. The result is that the flavor is better. Another quality that people like about this matzo, is its freshness and crispness. Good Will Basis Proposed in Book Rabbi Jechiel Mordecai Gordon, Rosh Yeshiva, Comes to Detroit With Urgent Plea for Immediate Financial Help Rabbi Jechiel Mordecai Gordon, one of the outstanding Talmudic scholars, Rosh Yeshiva of the fa- mous theological school of Lomza, came to Detroit this week to make an urgent appeal for this Yeshiva which is in dire financial straits. Rabbi Gordon is accompanied by his brother-in-law, Rabbi bL Hal- pern of New York. In addresses he is to deliver in local synagogues during his sev- eral days' stay here, Rabbi Gordon will describe the work of the Lom- za Yeshiva which was founded 64 years ago, and will ask for help at once in order to prevent the school's closing. According to Rabbi llalpern the Lomza Yeshiva is not only handi- capped for funds for operating ex- penses, but it is threatened with foreclosure on the school building because all means of upkeep have been used up. At a meeting called on Wednes- day evening by D. Temchin of 2447 Blaine Ave., arrangements were made for a reception for Rabbi Gordon and for assistance to be given him in his campaign during his stay here. Lomza Yeshiva is one of the most important Jewish theological schools, and it has a tradition for producing rabbis with great learn- ing. During his stay here Rabbi Gor- don is the guest of M. "Screen's No. 1 Man" Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle: Permit me to correct an error made in your paper of March 27, In an article 'Screen's No. 1 Man," Jim Tully claims that Paul Muni 's first motion picture was "Scarfare." If I remember cor- rectly it was "Seven Faces" and produced by Fox. I hope you won't be offended at taking the liberty of correcting you. Sincerely yours, MANUAL BROWN, 12221 Dexter Blvd. Editor's Note: Our correspondent is right and we are grateful to him for calling our atten- tion to this error. Thanks of Jr. Congregation of Shaarey Zedek Editor, Detroit Jewish Chronicle: On behalf of the Junior Con- gregation of Shaarey Zedek, I wish to thank your publication for its splendid co-operation with as. In connection with our recent Sunday evening social, your more than generous allotment of space WM greatly appreciated. Also on behalf of the Junior Congregation, I wish to express our sincere thanks to Rabbi A. M. Hershman for his kindness on the night of that social. Judge Harry B Keidan, who was scheduled to speak, was confined to his home, and Rabbi Hershman consented to speak in his place. Rabbi Hershman has always been an ardent supporter and leader to the Junior Congregation and a most willing helper. There- fore we express our deepest grati- tude to him. Very sincerely yours, THEODORE LEIBOWITZ, President. Ma Nishtano?-With Refer- once to Biro Bidjan Once more our children are confronting us with the question "ma Nishtano?" Why are we Jews different from any other civilized nation? Why is there so much "rporer" on our table? Why are we degraded and persecuted in Ger- many, Poland and Rumania? Why are so many doors of opportunity closed our boys and girls in this land of Liberty, the U. S. A.? The answer we have ben giving them all these many years, "AVodim Hoyinu", no longer satisfies any- body, for too tragic has become the Jewish problem to be solved by mere words or phrases. For many years we have been cherishing the hope that Palestine will solve our national problem, but to our sorrow, we now begin to realize that this is no more than a sweet dream. While we ap- preciate that many thousands of Jews found shelter in the land of their fathers and many more thou- sands of our nation will be saved, through the help of the Zionist or- or her age is between 13-17 and 17-21 . 2. We are building Palestine on the old system of profit and competition, which ine- vitably creates class hatred, and, where there is class hatered, race antagonism must 'follow. That is why we find that where the econo- mM crisis becomes critical, anti- S e m i t i c manifestations grow stronger. Our great prophet in picturing the time when there will be no wars included in his vision the economic equality that will ex- ist at the same time. We are quite fortunate, though, that this great aspiration for so- cial justice, expressed 3000 years ago, is now being realized at least in one part of our globe. Soviet Russia has established a new so- cial system, based on economic equality which abolished profits, exploitation and competition, and all nationality problems, including the Jewish problem, have been au- tomatically solved. In a short period of 18 years 3,000,000 Jews not only found the solution to their national problem, but were also given an opportunity to build a Jewish autonomous Republic, in Biro-Bidjan, where their cultural life will be preserved and further developed. Their children no longer have to ask "Ma Nishtano?" 170 million people of many nationali- ties are helping them in the great task of building a republic. Thou- sands of Jews from many other countries will, in the near future, find a new and happy home in the Jewish autonomous territory, but the salvation for all the Jews in the world will only come with the change of our economic system. We therefore must join hands with all progressive people who are ready and willing to work for a better social system, based on economic equality and when this will be ac- complished there will no longer be any Jewish problem. ELIAS C. RUBENSTEIN, 2901 Clairmount Ave. Editor's Note: Our correspond- ent completely ignores and belittles the definite social justice principles enacted in Palestine through the efforts of the Histadruth, the Jew- ish Federation of Labor; and the friendships created between Jews and Arabs by the Histadruth which also organized the Arabs into unions in Palestine. The Biro- Bidjan appeal, if it is to be made on the basis of attacks on Pales- tine, must low rather than gain supporters.
