SAUL L. SCHLESINGER

L. Schlesinger hue made a marked
success of the new venture he has
sponsored during the past three
months—the Shaarey Zedek Chil-
dren's Theater.
Despite apparently insurmount-
able obstacles, the Shaarey Zedek
Children's Theater emerged a high-
ly acceptable organization in its
first program for an outside group.
The occasion was the formal
monthly meeting of the Sisterhood
of Shaarey Zedek. The program,
consisting of a play, "The Sick
Purim," several dramatic read-
ings, and several musical selec-
tions, elicited praise from the large
group of adults present.
Previous to alai performance,
two performances by other casts
were given for Intermediate As-
sembly and the Purim party of the
Shaarey Zedek Sunday school.
These performances were even
more warmly received.
Although all of the 75 members
of the Shaarey Zedek Children's
Theater are to be commended for
their splendid attitudes and eager-
ness to cooperate, honorable men-
tion must go to the following whose
participation in the foregoing
programs resulted in their un-
usual merit: Frances Saulson, Ilene
Schiller, Thelma Jaffin, Selma Cal-
low, Maureen Joyce Levett, Helen
Sloan, Sylvia Sevin, Elaine Shift-
man, Edward Katz, Bertram Gor-
don, Eveleen Budnitzky, Pearl Ep-
stein, Alfred Shevin, David Dunn,
Elaine Brode, Shirley and Rita
Kallman, Helen Kadushin, Symond
Gottlieb, Brewster Broder, Alan
Feinberg.
In the past two weeks, the Shaa-
rey Zedek Children's Theater has
been besieged by new applications,
many of them with previous dra-
matic and stage training and sev-
eral with outstanding talent.
Scripts are already prepared for
a Passover play on which Alfred
Shevin has been selected as student
director. Many other plays are be-
ing examined for casting within a
week or two, and an even more
ambitious schedule of rehearsals
than peviously is being arranged.
The nature of the talent now re-
presented in the Shaarey Zedek
Children's Theater is so varied
and rich that an operetta or mu-
sical review on a large scale is
being considered for the near fu-
ture.
The adult staff now working
with Mr. Schlesinger on a volun-
teer basis is made up of Miss Syl-
via Shatzen, Miss Jane Colten,
Miss Melba Sklar, Barney Kava-
naugh, Sidney Eder and Richard
Stein, all of whom render inval-
uable assistance and cooperation
in the rehearsing, preparing and
staging of productions.

The bride was lovely in a white
Patin gown, with long train and
long sleeves ending in a point at
the wrist. The neckline was held
at each corner with pearl flower
clips. Her tulle veil, had a long
train ending in a ruffle. The
bride carried Calla Lillies.
Mrs. Betty Zuckerberg attended
the bride as matron of honor.
Miss Rosella Israel, sister of the
bride, was maid of honor. The
b ridesmaids were the Misses
Louise Levitt, Helen Jacobs, Ethel
Zissman and Clara Fallick.
William Jacobs attended Mr.
Jacobs as best man. The ushers
were Leonard Israel, Max Israel,
Harry Band and Donald Meret-
pky, of Windsor. Little Miss Mar-
Ian Leah Jacobs was flower girl.
Irwin David Zuckerberg was ring
bearer.
Out-of-town guests included:
Mr. and Mrs. Jacobs and son. Mr.
and Mrs. Cohen and Miss Horo-
witz from Buffalo, N. Y.; Mr. and
Mra. P. Israel and Mr. and Mrs.
F. Fallick from Saratoga Springs,
N. Y., and Dr. Garfield and Miss
Smith from Milwaukee, Wis.
