Tiberias Hot Springs is • New
Health Reaort
TIBERIAS, Palestine (WNS-
Palcor Agency) - After eleven
months' steady work since Febru-
ary, 1936, the Tiberias Hot
Springs have now been organized
as a modern health resort. Work
continued under the supervision
of Engineer Schroerer of Switzer-
land. There are now 17 instead
of three springs. The former
output was 400,000 litres (about
25,000 gallons) daily, but this
has now been increased to 1,600,-
000 litres (about 100,000 gal-
lons) daily. This is sufficient to
tend thousands of patients, par-
ticularly those with rheumatic
and nerve complaints.
Ten of the more than 300 pages
of this informative volume are de
voted to a chapter on "Syro-
Phenician, Canaanite Jewish
Myths."
The author points out that
"Old Testament records are full
of denunciations of the idolatry
against which Israel proclaimed
one and only true God, Jehovah,
In conquering that promised land
of Canaan." This comment is
made with reference to the Can-
aanite heathen worship of Baal,
and Mr. Bray, speaking of "a
mass of Jewish source literature"
Which reflect "influences and as-
aimilations in connection with
Scripture texts and characters,"
lists the Jewish source literature
as follows:
1. Torah (the Pentateuch);
the Prophets; Hagiographa, the
rest of the Ilehtew Bible. 2.
Oral law, treatises, legends or
parables in Midrash, Halakah and
Haggada (not in Pentateuch). 3
The Talmud, civil and canonical
law."
In his preface Mr. Bray asks:
"Is a Hitler inheriting the role
of Woden in reviving 'Nordic'
faith rites on Germany'a moun-
tain tops?" And he makes the as-
sertion that "this venturesome
book will indicate how far back
high civilization must go to be-
come truly pagan.

ligion group In the world is in-

showed that 6,200 Jews settled in

ing 1935. Biro Bidjan made such

territory of the Soviet Union.
Organizes Palestine Loan
Bank
TEL AVIV (WNS - Palcor
Agency)-The organization of a
loan bank to extend loans on sec-
ond mortgages for building pur-
poses has been decided upon by
the Heaven, the body which ad-
ministers the transfer of German-
Jewish property to Palestine.
Loans will be available only for
building material or for buildings
on which there is already a first
mortgage. The dividends of the
bank will be issued to those Ger-
man Jews who transfer their
money through the Haavara. It
is expected that this bank will
be of great help to the building
industry of Palestine.

"A Jewish library in every Jew-
ish home."
This is the hope of Rabbi Louis
I. Egelson of Cincinnati, assistant
director of .the Department of
Synagogue and School Extension,
of the Union of American Hebrew
Congregations, who believes that
self-education through books is
one of the most vital factors in
developing an educated Jewish
laity. Toward this end he has
prepared several book lists which
will make possible a Jewish li-
brary in every Jewish home and
will strengthen the layman's un-
derstanding of his religion and
his people.
These books are arranged ac-
cording to the amount the indivi-
dual wishes to spend for his li-
brary. If he desires to invest
$50 for this purpose, he will find
a well-rounded selection of books
on Jewish religion, history, litera-
ture, life and thought, biography
and fiction from which to choose.
If he wishes to build up a more
extensive collection, wider choices
in each of these categories are
available.
Rabbi Egelson will furnish in-
formation regarding selection of
books for personal libraries and
will give suggestions on book
choices for individual require-
ments. He may be addressed at
the Merchants Bldg., Cincinnati,
Ohio.

While Rabbi Egelson views with
approbation discussion groups,
open forums, and lecture courses
as means toward this end, he feels
that self-education is a more de-
sirable method since it is not de-
pendent on either time or place.
