Palestine have already been made,
and all plans mapped out to
reach the goal of $10,000 this
year.
There is an unprecedented en-

HOME RELIEF SOCIETY
OFFICERS INSTALLED

With all the ceremony that a
proud parent celebrates the Bar
Mitzvah of a beloved, the Home
Relief Society conducted its 13th
birthday and installation of offic-
ers at the home of Mrs. Anthony
Deutsch, before a record audience
of members and guests.
The life history of the organ-
ization was reviewed by Mrs.
Harry Shulman as a period of
trial, effort, disappointments and
successes. The attainment of the
13th birthday was likened to the
Bar Mitzvah marking the era of
maturity—the beginning of a new
period of confidence in the basic
principles of the Home Relief So-
ciety. Mrs. Shulman presented
each officer with her written pledge
which each read as her maftir, the
members responding with their
benedictions.
At the close of each reading,
the officer was the recipient of a
rose as an expression of the grat-
itude of the society for willingness
to devote tine and energy to the
cause. The mothers of officers
present were also given roses as
an expression of appreciatio 1.
At a token of gratitude for the
splendid term conducted by Mrs.
A. Weisman, retiring president,
the society presented Mrs. Weis-
man with a silver service tea set.
Mrs. Anthony Deutsch, the hos-
tess presented Mrs. Cornell, presi-
dent, with a gift.
In honor of the occasion Cantor
J. Sonenklar of the Shaarcy Ze-
dek, accompanied by Miss Rosa
Bassin, favored the audience with
several musical selections, dedi-
c att in yg
. "Where ere You Walk" by
Handel, to the Home Relief So-
ciety,
Jack Cornell, son of Mrs.
Charles Cornell, president, ren-
dered several piano numbers in
exceptionally pleasing manner.
Mrs. Cornell announced the se-
lection of the chairmen of the
various committees as follows:
Case committee, Sirs. Ralph
Levy; ways and means, Mrs. J.
H. Polozker; membership, Mrs.
Leon Zechman; clother, Mrs. H.
B. Ash; hospitalization, Mrs. Ira
Danto; hospital visitin and enter-
tainment. Mrs. Joseph Lefkowitz;
school, Mrs. Sidney Wallace; milk
distribution, Mrs. Harry Coggan;
hostess, Mrs. Joseph Sachs; pro-
gram, Mrs. Harry Shulman and
Mrs. Al Weisman; publicity, Mrs.
Robert S. Draws: clerical, Mrs. A.
Moss; courtesy, Mrs. B. Newman;
sponsor to juniors, Miss Edna
Steiner; representative to the jun-
ior organization, Mrs. J. Kanter.

the National Labor Campaign for
Palestine raised $1,300,000 in the
United States and Canada. A total
of more than 40,000 individuals
and 1,000 progressive and labor
organizations have participated.
The money secured has been
applied to provide modern agri-
cultural and industrial machinery
for Jewish pioneers, labor homes,
community cent ere, hospitals,
schools and libraries; for the
training of workers in Eastern
and Central Europe,and for refu-
gees in Palestine, so that they
may be self-sustaining as soon as
passible, after their arrival.
