CHANUKAH .. .

HE message of Chanukah
needs to be proclaimed today
even as in ages past, for the
forces of darkness still are ramp-
ant. By lighting Chanukah
candles today the Jew testifies to
the immortal faith of mankind at
large—to the faith that freedom
will triumph over persecution,
that darkness must make way
for light, that the world is to be
i -,overned not by power nor by
might, but by the spirit of divinity
which is indwelling within man.

to Be a Chanukah Play

The Shaarey Zedek Children's
Theater will present the first per-
formance of "Forever And—." a
Chanukah play, on Sunday, Dec.
22, in the Shaarey Zedek social
hall, for the Sunday School
classes.
The Shaarey Zedek Children's
Theater has recently been organ-
ized by Saul L. Schlesinger,
prominent in Detroit and Los An-
geles for his work with profes-
sional and amateur children's dra-
matic groups.
Mr. Schlesinger has been placed
in charge of assemblies and extra-
curricular activities at the Shaarey
Zedek this season, and the Chil-
dren's Theater of Shaarey Zedek
has an ambitious schedule of fu-
ture performances already out-
lined.
An active group of 30 talented
children, selected from the total
of 75 boys and girls who have had
auditions with Mr. Schlesinger,
have been cast in the two plays,
"Forever And—" and "The Can-
dle Drill," which will be two fea-
tures of the elaborate Chanukah
program prepared for Sunday,
Dec. 22, at 11 a. m.
The Children's Theater, organ-
ized two months ago, has been in
regular rehearsal on the above
plays since the day of organiza-
tion.
The following children from the
Shaarey Zedek student body are
acting in the following capacities:
Sally Graham, president; Frances
Saulson, secretary; Stanley Schil-
ler, student director and property
manager; Sidelle Levin, student
director. The entire group is un-
der the direction and supervision
of Saul L. Schlesinger.

He estimated that there are more
than 8,000,000 alien workers in
the United States and said that
"the number of aliens who should
be deported total three-fourths of
the 11,000,000 jobless." His bill
would permit a 40 per cent exemp-
tion from present immigration
quotas
