Stand on Olympics
The Rev. Charles E. Coughlin
has been asked to give his endorse-
ment to, and to speak at a special
anti-Nazi Olympics Forum and
mass meeting in Detroit, on Dec. 6,
according to a letter dispached to
him Saturday. Other prominent in-
dividuals who have already en-
dorsed the gathering include Rabbi
Leon Fram, of Temple Beth El,
Francis Dillon, national organizer
of the Associated Auto Workers of
America.
The meeting, which is being spon-
sored by the American Youth Con-
gress in conjunction with numerous
other religious, athletic and im-
provement organizations, is called
to protest the holding of the 1936
Olympics in Germany where, under
the Hitler regime, Jews, Catholics
and Protestants are persecuted. At
this meeting, in addition to speak-
ers representing the clergy, labor
and the field of athletics, the re-
sults will be read of a city-wide
plebiscite now being conducted on
the question, "Shall American Ath-
letes Compete in the Berlin Olym-
pics?" The results of the poll will
be telegraphed to the Amateur
Athletic Association, whose na-
tional convention opens on the same
date, Dec. 6.

Jewish View of "Hell"
The word hell, in the authorized
version of the Hebrew Old Testa-
ment, is a definite mistranslation of
the Hebrew word Sheol, which
means the grave, the nether world.
The Jews of Old Testament times
had to knowledge of • hell. Such
■ concept, insofar as it became part
of the popular Jewish conscious-
ness, was borrowed from (he an-

later generations, the word Gehin-

came to be syonymous with hell be-
cause of the fires kindled to Molich
in the Ge Hinnom (literally Valley
