sonally conduct a 10-piece orches-
tra, with Ray Gorrell and Julie Sa-
bourin as soloists, A special cuisine
prepared by the Statler chef, will
combine with a diversified program
of floor show entertainment drafted
from Detroit night clubs to feature
this annual dinner dance.
Thhe committee procured the
well known team of Miss Vera La
Verne and Jacques La Fayette
from Hollywood, who are in De-
troit this week. La Verne and La
Fayette will do their famous dance
interpretations during the eve-
ning.
Workers on the dinner dance
committee announce that ticket
sales for the event have far ex-
ceeded the quota set during the
planning of the project.
"No doubt this favorable recep-
tion may be accounted for by the
fact that Detroit Jews realize that
this is the sole money raising func-
tion sponsored by the organization,
e
and that upon the success of this
enterprise depends the continuance
of the work of the Home Relief So-
ciety for the entire coming year,"
declared Mrs. Al Weisman, presi-
dent, "We do want to emphasize,
however, that it is our intention
to make this event distinguished as
a social function and to make it
'the outstanding affair of the early
winter season."
The annual year book of the
Home Relief Society, containing a
record of the work of the organi-
zation over the past year, and mes-
sages from the president as well as
distinguished Detroit Jews, has
been published; and is to be cir-
culated to those attending the cab
aret and dinner dance.
A patrons committee, consisting
of prominent Detroit Jews, was an-
nounced in the last issue of The
Chronicle. Additional members of
the committee, according to an an-
nouncement by the organization,
a re: Mr. and Mrs. Nate S. Shapero,
Mr. and Mrs. Myron Keys, William
Friedman, Rabbi Leon Fram, Dr.
and Mrs. A. NI. Hershman, Rabbi
and Mrs. J. S. Sherka, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry Wineman.
In a letter commending the so-
ciety for its work, Dr. Leo M. pl
Franklin expressed regrets that a at
professional engagement and Mrs.
Franklin's inability to accompany on
him make it impossible for him to a
