A pleasant parlor game to en-
liven an otherwise tedious evening
is to attempt to gauge the chances
and the prospects of the younger
politicians, especially those who are
the sons of their fathers. There are
certain guiding factors in this
game which diminish its purely
speculative elements and a degree
of skill which renders the players
immune from the rigors of the
Lottery Acts.
"Pointers" in this agreeable pas-
time are such things as family,'
the old school, a "blue" or a repu-
tation for college ragging. These
are certain indications of future
political eminence. The former
Etonian or Harrovian who pulled'
a weighty oar in Oxford's or Cam-
bridge's "eights" has thereby given
ample evidence of his political qua-1
lity, and if, besides, he has chosen I

Strange Way of Politics
To emphasize the "old - fashioned"
character of such obedience, is to
appraise its courage in these days
when filial rebellion in matters
political is the rule rather than
the exception. At all events, it had
its reward when Malcolm Mac-
Donald, rawly young in Parlia-
mentary experience, received his
political advancement to the rank
of Under-Secretary of State for
the Dominions. In that capacity he
has exhibited a zealous devotion to
duty and a quiet assumption of un-
spectacular authority, performing
the trks of his office with an ade-
quattr regard for the conventions
and without displaying any excep-
tional qualities marking hint as
destined to go a great deal further
on the road to fame and power.
But the whirligig of politics with
