and THE LEGAL CHRONICLE
has never occurred in the history of the Olym-
pics. I cannot imagine the German sports
authorities not fulfilling their obligations.
If, however, it happened that Herr von
Tachammer and Osten, the supreme head of
German sports, restricted Olympic training
possibilities for "non-Aryans" in the same way
he did for the national German championships
and other sports competitions, then the Inter-
national Olympic Committee could—and be
compelled to—order removal of the games
from Berlin.
But I cannot believe things develop in that
direction, and hope the Olympic Games will
go through in 1936 without any friction.
There is an obligation on the part of
anti-Nazi elements to keep the world in-
formed on the true state of affairs in Ger-
many. The Nazis are playing a clever
game, and they will do everything in their
power to be absolved from blame in the
event Jews are barred from participation
in the Olympics. Thus, for instance, after
barring Greta Bergmann, high-jumping
star of the Stuttgart Jewish sport club,
Reich sport leaders have now invited her
to take part in the Olympic tryouts next
week. The American press, much hated by
the Nazis for telling the truth about the
German atrocities, is responsible for forc-
ing this change in attitude toward Miss
Bergmann whose elimination had been
broadcast as proof of anti-Jewish discrimi-
nation by the Nazi-ruled German Olym-
pics committee. But the news of the invi-
tation sent to Miss Bergmann to participate
in the games also contains the information
that another Jew, the sprinter Schattman,
had been barred from the sports events.
Tricky Nazism will do everything it can
to retain the Olympic games. But honest
sportsmen everywhere must fight to take
these games away from the barbaric land
of the Nazis.
"Heilt" Hitler
A German linotype man was sentenced
to seven months in jail for committing the
error of adding a "t" to "heil" while set-
ting the common Nazi salutation "Heil
Hitler." The court interpreted his mistake
as being an endorsement of the rumor that
Hitler is crazy and therefore must be
healed.
Many a word said or done in jest, or in
error, sometimes emphasizes an important
truth. In this instance, not only the lino-
type man but also the judge. by giving
credence to the rumor about Hitler, places
emphasis on the need of "healing' the
maniac Hitler.

The stern reproof, which Emil Sturtz, the
recognized spokesman for the National Social-
ist party in southern Westfalen, directed re-
cently at Julius Streicher, the rabid anti-
Semitic baiter, and against his 'Stuermer' does
not surprise us. Westfalen has always been an
unfertile soil for anti-Semitic agitation.
Streicher's 'Stuermer' has its chief circula-
tion in middle and south Germany, but even
there one finds it so seldom that it is not easy
to understand how our news-agencies decide
always to call up Streicher as evidence of the
anti-Semitic voice in Germany. We have never
found the 'Stuermer' in a good home; on the
contrary we have always heard sharp criticism
of it and its contents—criticism which left
nothing to be desired for definiteness.
Streicher is doubtlesly a heavy burden for
that part of the German people who know
but one life-work—to help Germany recover—
and who turn every energy to this task. As
we remember, the responsible element took
action once against Streicher and banned his
paper two days. Streicher does not hesitate
to freshen up the most absurd, thousand-times
disproved horror-stories about the Jews . . •
If the National Socialist party is well ad-
vised, it will shake Streicher energetically off,
sharply reject responsibility for his activities.
Emil Sturtz has made • beginning, and it is
to be hoped that it doesn't stop there. Gov-
ernment can be rendered impossible with such
a following. It is they, especially attacking
Jewish business in smaller cities, agitating
against Jews in general, who place the village
peace in great danger and who bring unlimited
damage to the country's standing in foreign
lands.
