Proceeds of a concert to take
place this Sunday evening at Hotel
Olympia in Mt. Clemens will be
used to finance the "Lexicon of the
Yiddish Theater," edited by Zalmen
Silberzviseig, who just issued the
second volume of his monumental
encyclopedia.
Mr. Silberzweig will address this
concert and those who will partici-
pate in the program will include
Esther Field, who is known as the
"Yiddishe Marne," and who appears
at present on Weinberg's Jewish
Radio Hour; Cantor I. Katz; the
actors of the Yiddish stage, Cottle
Cohen, Adolph Timinnoff and Mrs.
Fueld, who will appear jointly in
a comedy sketch; S. Solomon, pian-
ist, and his cosmopolitan orches-
tra; Moshe ben Moshe (Maurice
Dombey) and Harry Weinberg,
who will preside.
Mr. Silberzweig is at present in
Detroit, having recently completed
a European tour, in the interests
of his Lexicon, which includes bio-
graphical sketches of all Jewish
actors known to have appeared on
the Yiddish and Hebrew stages.
One more volume of this encyclo-
pedia is yet to be completed, under
the direction of the Jewish Actors'
Union of America. This work is
the result of compilations involv-
ing 20 years' work, at an expense
of $31,000.
Describing his experiences in the
course of his travels, Mr. Silber-
zweig points to the horrors that
visit the Jewish communities in
Eastern Europe. As a resident of
Palestine for 11 years—his family,
including his wife and child, still
reside there—he also described con-
ditions there. He admits the dan-
gers of speculation, but minimizes
them in the sense that after the
speculators have lost their fortunes
whatever they will have built will
remain and will add to Jewish
achievements there, enriching the
Jewish settlements.
He spoke with especial concern
about the status of Polish Jewry.
Drawing the analogy between a fish
that is drawn out of the water
and therefore must die, he stated
that every means of a livelihood
is being taken from Jews in Poland
wh oare thus doomed to extinction,
and destruction, unless the means
of saving the mis provided. He
warned that Jews in countries
neighboring on Poland are similar-
ly being drawn into such a net
of destruction.
Mr. Silberzweig said there are
dangers to Jewish freedom also in
France and England. Talk in
these countries of the dangers of
immigration, the manner in which
"aliens" are being hounded, are de-
scribed by him as symptoms of
impending troubles.

There are no vacancies available
in the Boy's Camp, Girl's Camp, and
Little Nahelu, the pre-school camp.
The Camp has enjoyed this 1935
season, as in the past, the patronage
of a select clientele, from among
prominent and well-known families
of our Jewish community.
It is interesting to note that among
the esteemed clientele of Nahelu 14
prominent physicians of Detroit have
