Not only has she enhanced the choir with her leadership vocally, but she has also given much work and energy to the musical and administrative activities of the Halevy. However, her activity in Detroit's foremost Jewish choir has not put a limit to her partici- pation in the numerous other Jewish activities. Detroit opera goers will re- member her brilliant performance as Marguerite in "Faust" which she sang with the San Carlo Opera Company last season. She also starred in the magnificent spec- tacle "Romance of a People" when it was first presented in Chicago in 1933, where it drew an audience of 175,000 people, and later when it was successfully presented in Detroit. At the request of the National Labor Committee, Mrs. Scheyer will sing at the reception for Dr. Albert Einstein in New York on Saturday, April 20. Besides the oratorio, which is a musical work containing much of cultural and pleasurable value and promising many surprises to its listeners, the choir will also sing a group of song varied in type and suited to diverse musical tastes. Dan Frohman will con- duct the concert. Rebecca Katz- man Frohman and Celia Plot- nick will accompany the choir, to- gether with a 25-man orchestra. Tickets for the concerts are priced at 50c, 75c and $1. and may be obtained from members or at rehearsals held Monday and Tuesday evening in Room 123, Northern High School. 1 PASSOVER GREETINGS FRANK J. LINEN, UNIFORM and TOWEL SERVICE 403-21 WEST LARNED ST. CHERRY 1200 It's hard to observe Passover— or any other holiday, for that matter — when you're in show business. The first rule of the stage is "The show must go on,' and you can see for yourself that I would have to be twins in order to play in the "Follies" and at- tend a Seder at the same time. Come to think of it, if I were twins we'd probably be doing a twin net in the show, so the Seder would be out anyway. This year the observance of Passover will be even harder than usual, for we're going to be on the road. At home it Was some- times possible to find a public Se- der that was still going on after the show, but I doubt that many religious groups outside of New York are such night-owls. At home, again, it was always pos- sible to instruct the cook to keep the house kosher le-Pesach — the traditional phrase in so much easi- er to use than any English equiva- lent — but on the road I have no Arta Feature os naivete) squeeze out the water until the mass is almost dry, and then mix the matzo with the beaten egg- yolk. Then to the egg-beater, to whip up the egg-white into a little mountain of stiff white snow. With the fork I then fold the beaten whites into the matzo mix- , tore — and all that remains to do is i to drop the batter onto the hot greased griddle, a spoonful I at a time, and bake the pancakes till they're brown, first on one ide, then on the other. h And the pancakes are ready to be eaten. Simple, isn't it? If one likes one can eat them plain, just ' as they come off the griddle. But personally I prefer them sprinkled I with sugar to which a little pow- dered cinnamon has been added, Ito give them that real old-fash- ioned flavor. Sometimes, again, just for a change, I'll start off the day with • matzo meal omelet. For this I need three eggs, three quarters of a cup of water, half a cup of matzo meal, a quarter of a tea- spoonful of salt, and two table spoonfuls of butter. The eggs, yolks and whites together, have to be beaten with an egg-beater until they're very light and foamy, In This Week of Passover .. .
