Marschner Circuit Court Judge Joseph A. Moynihan, in two radio address- es last Sunday, endorsed the Al- lied Jewish Campaign and strong- ly urged support of the causes included in the forthcoming drive, Judge Moynihan stated in part: "I have been reading with a great interest about the prelimi- nary activities concerning the forthcoming Allied Jewish Cam- paign of the Jewish Welfare Fed- eration. "The raising of the $100,800 fund for the new home for the aged is in itself a great under- taking. 'As I glanced through the list of agencies included in the drive this year I noted especially the Jewish Community Center. An a Judge of the Wayne Circuit Court I am particularly concerned with the efforts made in the in- terests of character building and the prevention of crime and de- linquency. The Jewish Commu- nity Center, located on Woodward Ave., corner of Holbrook is the agency which cares for the prob- lems of Jewish youth in Detroit. The basic purpose of your com- munity center is to make better Jews of the ,boys and girls who are enrolled there. A better Jew becomes a better American citi- zen. That is excellent work. It must not be curtailed in the slightest. "The Jewish Welfare Federa- tion, which sponsors the annual drives for funds to support the agencies included in its budget, is to be commended for the splen- did manner in which it has car- ried on through the depression years. The agencies included in the Federation budget have suf- fered immeasureably. The co- operation of every Jew in Detroit is needed to insure the success of the 1935 drive for funds which will make possible the continuation of the work of these agencies. The effort to bring this drive to a suc- cessful conclusion deserves the active and serious support of the entire community. The campaign, which will be held this year from May 5 to May 15, has headquarters at the Statler Hotel. In past years the local Jewish community has set enviable examples to non- Jewish philanthropic efforts. The good work should be continued."
