Witches Were Weighed

As there were no state laws for
such cases, women accused of
witcheraftery in early Ohio were
tried by weighing them against
the Bible, regardless of how plump
she might be. If she was guilty, the
Good Book would outweigh her,
and if not, the Scriptures would
descend.

Howard from Sinclair Lewis'
most famous novel of the same
name, and with Fay Bainter
playing her original role,s will be
the welcome attraction at the
Wilson Theater, Detroit, begin-
ning Thursday, April 4. There will
be 11 nights and three matinees

Coming almost direct from its
42 weeks' triumph in New York,
"Dodsworth's" engagement here
will easily be the highlight of the
season.
Sidney Howard, who adapted
"Dodswortli" for the stage, is
one of the outstanding American
dramatists. Ile wolf the I'ulitzer

adaptation of "The Late Chris-
topher Bean."
Walter Huston last appeared
on the stage, before going into
the movies, in "The Commodore
Marries," adapted from a novel
by Smolett. He made his first
great success in "Desire Under
the Elms" and later played in
"The Fountain," "The Barker,"
"Kongo" and "Fast Company."
