of Saxony, made it clear, in a
speech on the eve of the open-
ing of the Leipzig Spring Fair,
that by striking at the Jew in
industry the Nazis "get him at
his touchiest spot."
Jewish publishers remaining
' in business were warned that
unless they sell out their inter-
, ests, steps will be taken to drive
they out of this field.
Jake% Sprenger, Nazi State
Commissioner for Hesse and
Hesse-Nassau, declared at ■
National Socialist rally that
Jews arc daring to emerge
from their hiding places again"
and called upon the Nazis to
"take up the battle afresh"
against them.
In Nuremberg, at the insti-
gation of Hitler's bosom friend,
Julius Streicher, signs are evi-
dent everywhere announcing
"Jew's not wanted," "Jewish
students enter here at their
own risk," "Do not buy from
Jews," etc. In the Saar, in
spite of assurances given to
Jew's, similar signs began to ap-
pear on Jewish stores warning
Aryans against trading with
Jews.
In view of the continued
monstrosities and the insist-
ence on the part of Nazis to
deprive the Jews of every op-
portunity to earn a livelihood,
there can be only one answer
to Nazism and the pine of
Schacht and Lippert.
Continue the boycott!
In a speech which he deliv-
ered in Berlin on Feb. 24, in
honor of the 25th anniversary
of the founding of the National
Socialist party, Hitler hurled
a challenge: "I desire my ene-
mies should hate me." Further-
more, he emphasized that the
Nazi party adheres to its orig-
inal 25 points, which include
the vilest anti-Semitic planks.
It is not a question of hate,
but of using the only method
available at this time to fight
the horror which_emanates
from Berlin. Nazism must be
fought on every step, and the
only answer to Hitler insanities
is:
Boycott!
Even if the Nazis were de-
termined to check the constant
spread of anti-Semitism, the
fact remains that every vestige
of freedom is being stifled; that
labor and liberalism are being
enslaved. Therefore, as a peo-
ple whose prime hope lies with
liberalism, our answer must be:
Boycott!

would have been superfluous; our
responsibilities would have been
limited to the preservation of the
religious and cultural heritage. The
truth, however, is that we live in a
world in which the Jewish peo-
ple are the victims of prejudice,
with their existence threatened by
unfriendly powers. The unworthy
light against us does not halt at
national boundaries. It is in part
a symptom of an economic and poli-
tical disease of the entire western
world. This tight is directed not
solel y against us.is a fight
against the dignity and rights of
the human personality, against all
manfes Cations of spirituality,
against everything that makes the
existence of more noble natures
rich and worthy of living.
At this time the unity of Jews
the world over and their mutual
assistance is unyielding law. Would
that all Jews would learn from the
mistakes of the German Jews dur-
ing the last 20 years! For most
of the German Jews there existed
no international Jewish community.
In their own eyes they were Ger-
mans and nothing but Germans.
The eastern Jew, the so-called "Out-
iude" was to them but a foreigner.
When aid was given, it was admin-
istered to him with condescension.
And the recipient of such charity
was not too happy. Slavishly these
German Jews copied the still for-
eign-to-them modes of life of the
German people with the sole pur-
pose of making themselves forget-
ful of their Jewish origin, How
greatly did I suffer under this lack
of pride and dignity on the part of
these German Jews who were so

Of the 20,000 German Jews
who have settled in Palestine till
now, 8,000 have gone on the land,
and about 12,000 into the towns,
6,000 of them in Tel Aviv, which
is comparatively a very favorable
distribution, Dr. Landauer stated.
About 60 per cent of these
immigrants are under 30 years
of age and, therefore, represent
a source of energy for Palestine,
and also indicates that German
Jews will be able to adjust them-
selves to living conditions in the
country.
Provision for 8 Groups
In respect to agricultural settle-
ment, a distinction must be made
between the colonization of mid-
dle class groups who have some
capital of their own and the chal-
utzim who are entirely without
means, Dr. Landauer pointed out.
As for the middle class category,
provision has been made for eight
groups, colonized in part by the
Central Bureau and in part with
means furnished by themselves.
In a large measure, these groups
consist of former professionals.
Even those groups, however,
which provided for their own set-
tlement were assisted in large
measure through the extension
of credits. Provision was made
for 1,000 immigrants from Ger-
many in the existing settlements.

I greet with especial delight and
