At a meeting held at the Fisher
branch of the Y. M. C. A. last
Wednesday evening, several Min-
dred business and professional men,
as well as heads of various civic
and political organizations went on
record endorsing the candidacy of
Aaron Kurland for Circuit Judge
on the Democratic ticket.
In addressing the gathering,
Mr. Kurland urged the election of
judges on the basis of merit and
•haracter, rather than on the popu-
larity or political familiarity of the
name. He stated, "The character
of candidates is nearly always an
assurance of performance. Only
those candidates should be nomi-
nated whose character and past
performance indicate that they
possess i n t e g rity, fearlessness,
sound judgment and broad human
interests. A judge of the Circuit
Court must have a judicial temper
and must possess a thorough legal
training. Such a man will always
inspire the confidence of the people
'If his community."
Mr. Kurland has served as at-
torney and chairman of the Mich-
igan Depositors League, consist-
ing of the depositors of both closed
National Banks in Detroit, and has
practiced law in Michigan for 11
years.

On Thursday evening, Feb. 28,
at 8 o'clock, Prince Ilubertus
L oewenstein, who has won recog-
nition as one of the most im-
portant figures in the battle to
restore democracy and tolerance
in Germany, will speak at the De-
troit Institute of Arts. His lec-
ture title will be "National So-
cialism, Anti-Semitism and Cath-
olicism."
A leading figure in the Catholic
Center Party, he was the founder
and leader of the Vortrup
Schwartz-Rot Gold, one of the
most important youth organiza-
tions of the Republican Reichs-
banner in Germany.

inducted into office its officers for
1935 at an inaugural stag ban-
quet in the Belcrest Hotel, Jan.
31.
Dr. II. W. Goldstick ushered in
the respective officers with fitting
comments. Organization plans for
the ensuing year were outlined
by the chancellor, Dr. M. Gantz;
Dr. A. Altman, vice chancellor;
Dr. J. J. Fineman, scribe; Dr.
S. I. Shaw, quaestor; Dr. Jules
Goldsmith, macer; Drs. G. G.
Fineman, Lou Meyers and Jack
Goode, executive committee, were
in turn given the oath of office
by the regent, Dr. Leon Katzin.
The evening's highlight was the
announcement that Drs, Samuel
Gerendasy and Joseph Gruber,
Michigan delegates to the 1934
national conclave in Atlantic City,
were successful in bringing to De-
troit the fraternity convention
for 1935. Hundreds of practicing
dentists and dental students from
the piloted States and Canada
will attend this three-day meeting

is eminently qualified for the post

Mr. Behrendt stated, "Because of
